I guess the thing is it's got to be across the board. Imagine anglers still fish, then golfers still play, then the local bowls club then the swimming club and before you know it everyone's finding a way to get round the ban by finding an excuse as to why their particular hobby isn't unsafe or an infection risk. I think we've all just got to put up with it for a while and accept these aren't normal times and so there's gonna be disruption to normal activities.
I look at it this way, if we'd had news that a particular terrorist organisation was about the launch multiple attacks in every town and the government had said they'll do their best to stop it, but some of you will get killed if you don't stay inside, would you go fishing and risk orphaning your kids, widowing your wife, breaking your parents hearts. I know I wouldn't for the sake of three weeks carp fishing.

Hi Having had time today to trawl through faceache its become obvious that there's a definite minority that APPEAR to think it acceptable to be out and about fishing either today or thru the weekend or whinge and whine about venue closures. Are they oblivious or just ignorant of the situation? If some lakes are staying open they are acting irresponsibly to say the least for reasons already mentioned on here...as a rule we are a fairly sociable bunch and this is EXACTLY what we should be avoiding.
This is the 1st time over 30 years I am in position where a syndi ticket is a personally viable financial purchase. Only a fortnight ago I purchased said ticket..I now find myself unable to either fish it or even walk around it..Its a sickening situation to be in .
Driving home from work this afternoon ( Im classed as an essential worker ) it was alarming to see people out and about as if nothing was wrong....Dog walkers...Families in a park...families out for bike rides who fail the 2m gap by a furlong! What part of distancing DONT they grasp...its this continually moronic behaviour which could lead to further draconian measures...TOTAL LOCKDOWN as per Italy and or troops on the streets possibly acting with less restraint than our Police would demonstrate.
Think Laneys post was spot on tbh. He has contractual obligations to fulfil through his fishing but has decided to step back until things calm down.
I have no idea how many on here actually properly remember the close season as it was..be interesting to see. I agree it would be quite nice to rediscover a 'new June 16th' whenever that is. Like most of us I take it for granted that I can go dangling whenever I want these days.

Remember the close season? My main waters still have it. It didn't go away for a lot of people. I still remember being astonished when my mate told me that canals weren't going to have to shut anymore.

I only ask as I haven't fished a venue with a close season in donkeys years,also the number of youngsters on recently into angling in general probably wouldn't know anything about it!

2001 - Foot and Mouth - angling, walking in parks etc all stopped to protect livestock and agriculture - everyone followed the guidelines
2020 - COVID 19 - non essential activities stopped to protect the elderly and vulnerable - half of us still think its ok to golf and fish etc
Sad to see how our attitudes have changed in only 20 years........!!!!!!

All "permitted activities" and how does a family with kids manage distancing? Family groups still allowed as far as I know.
Why not think before labelling people morons from your nice high horse, which seems to have a tilt to the right.

Its 3 weeks but probably longer so get used to it. Ive got a 12 week sentence and haven't even thought about going fishing or even cleaning my gear.
My father is 93 and has walked to the local farm shop every morning for papers and milk for 30 years. I took an hour to talk him out of he went this morning and asked if they could deliver. No problems Reg stay safe!
His argument was he's had a long life but when pointed out at the end its not only his life but my mother realisation dawned! If he can change and adapt so can you!
So stay safe the fish will still be there in the summer and mad for a bit of bait.
Hopefully we won't have the off grid guesting for kudos brigade acting like pratts.

I'd have thought it's just a fact of life and members would just put up with it. Leases still need to be paid for. Stock still need paying for, swim building, tree work will all still need to be done in the coming season. I always look as the money I pay for syndicate tickets as the funds to keep the club running, with the bonus that I get to fish it occasionally thrown in. If I based my tickets on whether I actually used them, I'd probably drop at least two of the three. But the way I see it I'm the perfect member, I pay my subs each year, do all my work parties, attend the agm, then don't actually fish them. To survive they'll still need all our subs.
