Agree
Maybe we should call our debts in from Europe too. Quite a few years ago now I read we were owed trillions!

Previous government's have been pilloried for borrowing, after world events turned against the UK. Didn't fix the roof when the sun was shining was a favorite phrase. Well it's been a decade to fix that roof and its pissing in more than ever now the sun's not shining.

The more I read of this the more dumb I felt!
Good job I don't teach economics...
Did get me thinking though. Are we on a slippery slope? My basic (very) understanding of QE is that, as more money is released into the system, the overall value of the individual parts (let's say a 5 pound note as an example) is decreased. Money has value because of its scarcity. So more bits of money about devalues all of it. (I realise it's less of a physical process now and more numbers on screens)
So... this in mind, if I had £1000 savings in January, ignoring interest etc., it's now worth less due to QE. Now this is the same for everyone, so we don't necessarily notice until it comes to trade etc.
Then I started to think about Germany and hyperinflation and those 50,000 mark notes that were worth less than the paper they were printed on (slight exaggeration there). Are we headed that way?
God my brain hurts now. It was much simpler when banking was just my little tsb school bank paying in book...

Rather than actually selling them and distributing/pocketing the proceeds, didn't they just allow local councils to sell them off and use the funds to balance their books?
Those unnecessary road works, pedestrian area ‘upgrades' and street dance workshops don't pay for themselves!
Development of the buildings sold off may have made a few of the wink wink nudge nudge brigade miwwions, but it also kept the families of the labour fed.... every cloud
It's just a way to wash the money, it still goes back to the man but with a few skims on the way

The ones you've listed were just our services that got sold down the river for unearned income/shareholder profits. The big high tech, future money high quality job industries get snaffled up and off shored all the time. British short termism to cash out is a well known affliction to the detriment of UK PLC as a whole. That's where the government have failed, they can block any deal. But as we've elected the most free market gang of MP's in memory ( whilst the rest of the world turns in on itself with more and more protectionism) you get what you voted for.

You know me mate, a world without street dance is not a world I want to be in
But to be fair a get together in the local town hall on a Wednesday is as far removed from street as you can get lol
don't get me started on political exploitation of a culture spawned from government negligence
