That's why I intentionally never catch them - saves them so much stress and potential injury.

I'm with noj. If you can safely unhook in the water and let them rest up a bit there then why not? But I'm not one for the Facebook trophy shots so maybe it's simpler for me. If I caught a real monster then I guess a picture would be good to bore the wife with but I mostly fish solo so unless there's another angler nearby it's probably not happening

Saw the video briefly, I think the geezer has swallowed an NWA vinyl to help wash down his fink food cornflakes.
Got absolutely zero interest in the likes of Bluebell and Linear, mainly because its frequented by absolute weapons.

Bags were actually a score but there was always respectable hash for 15 quid..

Judging by some of the comments in this thread, you'd think lake and river banks nationwide were thronged with people doing lines of beak off of bivvy tables, clad head to toe in shell suits. Perhaps try to not fish for mutant Simmos in mud puddles?

Fish care applies to everyone, innit ? Those who don´t practice safe fish care are idiot, end of.
There are those that honestly don´t a give a dogs breath, about proper fish care and need to be schooled.
For your information, i can bloody well post on any thread i like, and if you feel that you´re been treated like an idiot, then maybe you are. Take a look in the mirror, and ask yourself that same question. The only idiot in question, is the idiot hanging a carp in a tree, for a "prolonged period of time", with the internal organs taking a beating due to the weight distribution, if the carp kicks off, and ends up, in the upright position.
Because as scozza says their organs aren't evolved to take the loads of slings and weighing.
And everyone that is pouring water or on the fish' gills, that's like stamping on your chest while you can't breathe I'd have thought.
Slings and weighing are all part of the sport, so that´s why, if you do intend on using em, then please use them wisely.

Those that are, should be schooled and not scorned, so please explain to those that do, what exactly happens when you pour water directly on the fish´gills

Sometimes english is hard to understand, if you interpret things wrong.
If one is not used to handling big carp ALONE, then next bet is to seek help from someone else, if possible.
