I've watched a ton of videos on the multi-fuel stoves from MSR, Primus and Optimus and they all look great but the one thing that's putting me off is the racket they all make. You can get the silent caps from Berniedawg but you shouldn't have to pay another £30 to make it quieter. For that reason I'm probably more likely to get either the Coleman Sportster or try a gas stove. If it was purely for camping then I'd consider one of the multi-fuel stoves but I'm hopefully at a lake or river trying to catch fish and to me that means being as quiet as bloody possible to increase my chances of not blanking.

The MSR Whisperlite is probably the quietest of the lot and you don't need a pawdawg with it.
I decided to get a pawdawg for my Polaris and it does make a huge difference. When you add it up, yeah, it's not cheap. The Whisperlite cooks marginally quicker than my Polaris.
I've had nigh on every cooker out there barr a few, gas, petrol, multi fuel, meths, alcohol, two sticks you rub together. The best by a very long shot is the Polaris.
If you wanna take you're life/bivvy in your own hands, go for the Coleman's - they have a very nasty habit of turning into a fireball.

I too have owned and used most types of stoves since I started carp fishing in 1962 and there are millions of Coleman petrol stoves in use world wide without any problems what so ever
YES some people have had problems
and 99% are USER ERROR you cant blame a stove if its being operated incorrectly !
same with ANY STOVE been tons of fires with gas stoves being operated incorrectly too
I have Been using Coleman stoves since they introduced the 400a back in the day and its still perfect today I also use my Coleman double burner never had any issues

I wouldn't tie yourself in knots or spend a lot on a stove for fishing. A Bullin T4 and a can of 70/30 gas will do you fine 12 months of the year in the UK. Much more interesting things to ponder in fishing than how best to boil your kettle.

Unlike you and Oldgeezer, I haven't had an awful lot of stoves so my experience and knowledge isn't anywhere near you two.
However, I had a Coleman sportster for quite a few years and never really had any problems. I did have a few problems initially when I first got the stove with not being able to get it to simmer but as Oldgeezer mentioned, that was me and user error. Once I worked out how to use it properly, it was an excellent stove.
I never had any danger moments as I wouldn't cook anywhere near my bivvy. Anyone lighting up inside or extremely close to their bivvy is surely asking for trouble.
I think we all need to take a step back though and just accept we all have our own choices and preferences. All of the stoves spoken about on this thread have their positives and negatives in the eyes of the user, but can we try to avoid getting so animated on our opinions where we verge on being insulting to another person's opinion. It's an opinion and like an arse hole, everyone has one.
Come on guys, try to show a bit of respect to each other. It's an accessory to use in something we all commonly love, and that's the sport of carp fishing. 😁👍
