Cost, lack of renewable energy, lack of investment in the right systems take your pick.
It's not that efficient to produce so we would would need more renewable energy. Not really very cost effective to produce compared to other fuel sources at present. This is probably the biggest stumbling block for politicians as it would need more investment.
Getting hydrogen from fossil fuels seems to be the easiest way at present but as gas prices are rising then that doesn't look so clever any more.
Bottom line is battery electric is a cheaper system for cars so that's what gets pushed at present. Still enough diesel so no rush?
We will need something for the heavy goods transport eventually so I think it will come but someone will need to spend money.

I think you're right, hydrogen will be the way forward for HGV's, as soon as you start putting any load on an EV, the battery range reduces, colder weather the same so it will need something more stable.

A lot has happened in the EV market, batteries now recyclable, 400 mile ranges now getting more common but the range will always be an issue for HGV's etc.

Eventually will you be able to fill you car with hydrogen like you do in a petrol station?
That would solve governments problem of taxing fuel, it will be done at the filling station.

I'm sure there were reservations about EV's a few years back, there still is, there's not enough charging points.
I don't know anything about hydrogen cell vehicles but if it was possible to fill up at a filling station then converting existing petrol stations to hydrogen might be more doable?
Whether this is possible I don't know but I can't see EV charging infrastructure being ready for 2030.

Electric is great for local journey and reasonable for commuting but the 400 mile range is bullshine in real world driving.

I've had advanced driver training twice, once with an x Met traffic cop, he said pretty much the same thing.

Yeh, it's not rocket science. It shouldn't really be considerd advanced. I teach it to all my learners from day one.

There is no logical reason to accelerate to.a higher speed when you can already see the reason to slowdown ahead.

Something I didn't mention earlier is tailgating. No logic to that either. I often drive through 2 or 3 towns 7 cars all.bunched up
All braking in succession. And me 50 feet behind not touching my brakes.

Tailgating, the worst position to be in to perform a safe overtake.

TBH it was only part of the course, at one point we were driving in what he called pursuit style (within the speed limits). That was very good especially the road positioning part, straight lines through bends etc use of speed and using the whole road not just your lane, he told me some brilliant stories about his life in cars and on bikes in the Met.

Whilst you're on about breaking etc and slowing down, I had a new Merc delivered back end of 21, the thing reads road signs and knows the roads speed limit, it slows the car down when entering a new speed limit and slows the car if you get too close to the car in front which can be useful, the lane assist part drives me nuts though so I switch that off , goes to show where the technology is heading

As for MPG its all bull****, my car is a Hybrid and the leccy part has nether done the mileage Mercedes said it would, personally I dont care as I get back a lot more per mile in expenses anyway, as stated earlier its the tax the car saves me that matters, in excess of £300 month. If your not a company car driver you'd probably bee very pissed off, I can see this being the next scandal for the industry as per the fuel admissions scandal.
Are you sure?
