If by Devil Dog you mean a Rottweiler then I can speak from experience of owning two that they are lovely dogs and very mis-understood. My wife is considerably more dangerous and unpredictable.

I have two carping hobbies. The first one is the same as the rest of you - carbon rods, modern gear, usual sort of set up.
My second hobby is using traditional fishing gear. Split cane rods, Mitchell reels etc etc. I now make my own rods from bamboo culms and a lot of other gear too. I posted a couple of threads about 18 months ago and they were well received on here.
I normally fish on a very nice syndicate so no problem. However, on the rare occasions I've fished with a couple of mates on a commercial venue the amount of grief I've gotten is unbelievable. Some pissed or ****ered obnoxious gob***** literally laughing in your face isn't pleasant or called for. I keep my temper in check, keep my head down. These morons also don't realise that sound carries over water and I can hear some of the bile they are spewing. I find the best way to wind them up is to put a fish on the bank, something most of them can't seem to do - even with the modernest of gear.

Yes Mal. I do sell rods, landing nets and other bits n pieces to other enthusiasts in low volume numbers. I use the money for Syndicate tickets, France trips etc but I am strictly amatuer. I'm retired so it also helps to keep the brain sharp 👍
