Yeah. Why scale down when the carp are at their least discriminating as far as rigs are concerned.
Location is the most important thing in cold weather.

Let's face it, we are in an era now where a lot of folks have to ask the bloke in the next swim if they have tied their hook on correctly. People have been conditioned so much by all the online cod's wallop they can't even think for themselves anymore, only drive to the shop to buy the next most not needed “needed” item

I had a few years without doing any serious fishing and last season got right in to it and went mad thinking about rigs and set ups. Went in total circles for a month or two then went back to basics and remembered it's all a load of total ********. The media definitely does a good job of making carp fishing sound far more complicated and sophisticated than it is, all in the name of sales. I'd been fishing 20+ years so god knows what it's like if someones new to it all.

On open acces waters, people claim that certain fish haven't been out for X amount of time. How could you possibly know what has and hasn't been caught, when anyone can turn up and fish.

I've been told that there's sturgeon in the lake or a catfish and even oh there's just 2 tench in here.....how do you know ?
Although I had 1 tench in august from there I have been fishing this lake for almost 9 years so maybe that could be true as I've never had any other tench or any other type of fish

I heard on a podcast the other day that carp have bad eyesight (he was justifying the use of a flavour) and the host did not disagree. If that's the case the carp in my lake must have gone to Specsavers.

One of our lakes had a "rumored ," catfish in it. Went either uncaught or unreported for years as the instructions were that it had to be removed when caught. It was eventually caught at 32lb as far as I know and removed from the lake. I'm not sure what happened to it as they aren't allowed to be stocked into other lakes as far as I know.
