I replied to a pm earlier, but worth sharing here...
I always use garlic powder, and have altered the other spices that back it up just to see if there is much of a difference.
My last 2 egger of hookbaits (barrel bottom baits) contained (measurements in heaped tablespoons)...
2 garlic, 2 paprika, 2 hot madras curry.
I don't add this to base mix, but add as I mix so it can then be more flexible.
The last 12 egger notes that I can find, I used 4 garlic and 4 paprika.
I'd left the curry out as I was trying to get a sense of how the pap stood out. Although it's nice with the pap I think I prefer the garlic with curry. I will still add the pap though as I have 5k of it!

I really I want to only just be able to smell and taste it in finished baits, background, not high level.
I always taste a finished bait after it has been frozen and thawed for the real effect, and not when just made as senses are dulled as overloaded already.

If I let him smell my hookbaits the ones with garlic powder in always drive him nuts. I've done it for so long now that it's very interesting when I take him to a fishing tackle shop. He can find the most attractive one to him in seconds, goes and rubs himself against his favourite bags of ground baits. Seen him push them off the shelf before and roll on the bag

The barrel hookers and 14mm pop ups had been thoroughly dried, and have now been rehydrated using my own blend of smelly stuff.
You may notice quite a few barrells and pop ups have been cut in half with a craft knife.
This allows me to make a small balanced bottom bait, mini snowman, for pva bags.
I can also use the half pops as a sight topper rather than plastic.

A couple of glugs, with time in between to fully absorb.
There are some powders mixed with liquids in the glug, some soluble and some semi soluble.
This leaves a nice sticky coating that prolongs the leak off effect, unlike a dusting coating that soon washes away.
And not just a coating, as lots of the goodness and attraction is absorbed deep into the baits.

The glugged baits were put to good use...
4" supple braid multi rig, half a barrel and half a pop to make a mini snowman bbb.
A 57 common, 47, 43, 7 x 30s and a couple of upper 20s.

If you don't mind me asking, how are you drying your baits? I made some hookbaits earlier on I the year and completely drying them out was a bit of a pain. Ended up using rock salt in the end. They have gone rock solid now but it's taken months

I just leave them on mushroom trays for several days with the occasional shake, but the weather has to be warm and windy, or you have to move them indoors and arm wrestle with the wife.
This time of the year is difficult with the extra humidity and cold.
I usually test with a baiting needle, if I can't get a needle through then they are dried right through.
It can take over a week, especially for bigger baits.
Once throughly dried out and rattling I then start the rehydrate process.

Sorry to diverse a little but do you know much about the crypto peerless mixers?
After seeing this thread i've looked at a few mixers i have always just used a plaster mixer in the large plastic buckets doing around 4kilo of basemix which finishes around 7kilo of paste after eggs and liquids but i always have to finish mixing the base by hand as the plaster mixer isnt upto it.
I have seen a crypto peerless 10l not to far from me do you have any idea what sort amount of base mix that would mix in one go? or should i be looking at something else

I think that size is about 12 -15 egg mix.
My 20qt hobart does 25 eggs with ease, and 30 eggs if pushed.
Crypto peerless and hobart are both very similar machines.

Thanks for the reply, The 10 liter one is probably going to be around 3kilo of finished bait are you getting somewhere around 6-7 kilo of finished bait per mix?
Does your completely finish the mix or do you have to do the final bit by hand?
Its not something i would use a lot but when i do bait i generally spend all day making it and freeze for the year

25 eggs and liquids did 5k, 30 eggs and liquids did 6k of finished boilies.
All in the mixer, no hand finishing.

Thanks for that i think my bait gun is a 3k one the 10l mixer might be ok for me and not take up to much space, i would be able to do a mix and put all of it in the bait gun in one go then roll and just do the whole process several times

That's a lovely carp. Seeing this thread makes me want to roll my own again. Got to much bait to use up before I can even consider it though .
