The closest i have ever found to the action of a baby ballista was the original whychwood maximiser spd , they are/were a joy to use.
So my two pennies worth is rods soften over time and a set of ten year old infinities for example will feel completely different to the same set built the same day of left unused in perfect sealed condition.
I have some XS free spirits which seem to bend from the handle, certain I'd class them as a players rod, but I bought them second hand about 14 years ago maybe more so it's subjective

i dont think there is anything in their range now like the SPD?

I can assure you he does,nt as far as i know i bought the last 50 blanks ever produced and that was some years ago

I have the Free spirit XS. Bought a set of 3
About 12 years ago from a forum.members tart mate
That had used them once while.waiting for some customs.
Best 500.quid I ever spent.
Despite their 3.25tc rating I find them amazing rods for actually playing a fish in.
Last week at a well.stocked water I had well over 30 maybe
40 fish. From 6 or 7lb to mid 20s. Never bumped one.
I dont think I've lost.more.than 2 or 3 fish since I've had them
What I also like is when you have something bigger on you always feel the rod will absorb anything. I've had a clutch stick,
Or a.line get wrapped. Even played two at a time, the rods just handle it.

My 2.75 Dwarf rods. Complete with flat spots, Jerky action
and creaking.

I came so close to buying a set when they were available but went for Wychwood SPD's Equinox's instead (also a lovely rod) but always look back at the TFG X-Series with fondness

i.ve owned ballistas and armalites and ng's and free spirit es. the free spirit's are the best of that bunch but they are all pretty decent.
