Today, its about ,woke,a bit more woke and some added wokeness,plus a bit of gender neutrally, some climate scaremongering, added to fearmongering on a daily basis..everything is scary and might hurt you..,and then to add to the above some jabby ,jabbed rubbish..

The easiest solution is a social where everybody gets on the shovel and observes each other's facial expressions

Somebody has become momentarily relevant again, which was probably the aim. A few internet reach rounds and some fluffing, normality is returned.
He's lucky Gerry didn't pipe up. He probably made his own bloody hooks

Not sure what all the fuss is about these rigs. They are all pretty much the same, as they create a bigger hook, whether that is with tubing or a stiff mono section, so call them all big hook rigs and be done with it. The chod is just a big hook rig, but a bit bigger still.
I think the bent hook was the 1st time I saw a bigger curved style hook, and nothing much has changed since ffs.

The elitism of "I've been fishing for X years so I am therefore better" is incredibly, incredibly annoying.
Years of experience doing something does IN NO WAY effect your ability. Yes, if you've constantly learnt new things and tried and tested things over the years, you *could* be better. But years experience DOES NOT equal ability.
Put it this way - my gramps (RIP) first started fishing in the 1940s. Would I say he was a particularly spectacular angler before he died? Not really. He was a very old school fisherman who caught fish, but who by no means had amazing skill just because he'd fished for 60 years.
Really does my head in all these 'it was better back then and I know more because I've been around the block' opinions.

It was better back then simply because it was a lot easier to find the peice away from the crowds many yearn for and rarely caught fish in good condition. I'd agreed just because someone has been at it for decades doesn't mean they are a good angler. Some people are naturally gifted and have the ability to constantly absorb information and act on it. In some ways you could argue it was easier back then with considerably fewer people trying to catch the same fish and when decent bivvies and bedchair ect became available the banks were still relatively empty. Having said all that many today are obsessed with weight and getting pictures on social media and these people rarely understand that some of us aren't really bothered about catching but just want to enjoy the location in piece while watching the wildlife we are surrounded by.

It's very much a seesaw argument, as you've very eloquently put.
Yes there were less anglers. Less lakes. Less fish (and far less 'big' fish). Would it be considered 'easier' or 'harder'? Well, there would be massive arguments for both sides.
One thing the 'it was better in my day' brigade forget is that everyone has the same rights to fish...

Agree everyone has the right to fish and I disagree with the start with small fish brigade before progressing to carp as if carp are anymore important than any other fish. My advice to any new angler would be to fish with someone that can teach you how to deal with your capture and handle it correctly.

I absolutely agree. I don't think 'big carp fishing' should be where you cut your teeth. I, as most people who learnt in the late 90's, started 'bit fishing' for bits and bobs. Taught me a lot about fish and fishing in general.

I dont think by saying it was better back in the day is old elitist nonsense, it's their opinion, which would probably backed up by a large percentage of anglers, who have fished circa of 30+ years
