It's a shame it's difficult to get GLT Pro Gold, I thought that was a comparative line to GR60. Not that I gave much of a toss to do an in-depth comparison - I just used it and I found it worked just as well.

It depends how they are fishing and just what type of weed and how much, like most things in carp fishing if given a bit of thought it's not a problem.

As for line I've been using Gardner Pro Light Blend for a number of seasons and it's been great for me, currently using the XM version which is 0.40, not lost a fish.

You are living in the dark ages im afraid , you're miles behind the times , any notable and accomplished carp angler will always look at diameter of a line first , think of distance casting lines , have you ever heard or seen of them before ? As I've already mentioned this is carp forum for a question about carp fishing lines not some idiot called Gilbey who knows **** all about it

If diameter wasn't relevant on carp lines then why would manufacturers print it on the label ? You've got to be blind if you don't look at diameters, it's irresponsible for one and many waters specify minimum breaking strain WITH DIAMETER OF LEAST ........ mm . Are you sure you are still correct ? Noj and MarkERZ disagree or are you so blind in thinking that you are right you can't take being wrong which you are , now crawl back under your rock on the ‘other' forum ... if you can

Ok , take your usual line which might be for arguments sake Korda Basix ‘15lb' which comes in a a diameter of 0.40mm .
Now take another ‘15lb' line this time Prologic mimicry , it's stated diameter is 0.30mm , both of these lines have 15lb stated on them , one breaks at 13.37lb and the other breaks at 19.55lb
Which ‘15lb' line would you be happy walloping a 3.5oz or 4oz lead out with ? Or would you not look at diameter ? Same goes for the snag / distance argument

To go just off stated breaking strain only in my opinion isn't advisable as lines are rated differently.
For example a lot of 15lb lines in the region of 0.37 to 0.4 diameter will happily take a hard cast with 3.5 or 4 oz leads without breaking and due to diameter will be fairly resistant to small nicks damage etc .
Compare that to say 18lb pb products in 0.3mm diameter despite the higher stated breaking strain it will not take the same force when casting so risk cracking off possibly resulting in putting people at risk or leaving live rigs in the lake, it would also not be as durable to minor damage etc with the prospect of losing a fish and leaving it with end tackle.

I wouldnt use either, I'd just spoil up with GR60, but that's experience talking though.
But in regards to the diameter, again I wouldnt bother looking, some lines might have a slightly larger diameter, but are poor when it comes to abrasion resistance, likewise the other way around, so it's pretty pointless to me to have 2 sets of rules for mono, especially if you're allowed to use braid

I find it hard to believe that people only go off BS and not diameter. Diameter will give you a much better idea of the performance of the line. BS is BS, just any number the company fancied putting in it.

i mean if it was labelled as 20 id still use it.
yes ok BG can be a little troublesome to the latest and greatest mono but if it didnt sell they wouldnt make it and will likely still be sold long after alot the more fashionable stuff has disappeared.
tis a shame that people focus too much on this type of stuff and dont keep their own council or openly argue about it
