Too many carp anglers live in the past. Long have the good old exciting days where the lakes like the mere, Horton etc were Mecca. It is what it is nowadays. Modern bait boats, drones, stupid baitng poles and lakes filled with big fish. All these big carp all over social media will be the downfall of our sport and it will die out. 25 years ago I along with most other keen fisherman knew every British record. Holme fen is a water like any French water so keep it for what it is.

I go along the lines of what you're saying. Not wanting to flog a dead horse, I'm just highlighting what these sorts of places are, essentially cartoon like.
I'd suggest Horton was the start of a lot of what we're seeing now, that whole sorry saga was deeply suspicious, but I digress.Things change and with money being a driving factor in all of this, huge overfed and overstocked carp was all on the cards = winning?

I have fished and always will fish for today, just that - repeating myself again - I just don't see the merit of the captures from places like Holme Fen et al.

Fair play to the lad. If anyone on this forum caught a fish that size from anywhere, France, or even Holme Fen, we'd be chuffed to bits. Can't fault him 👍

Either your deluded or live in a parallel universe. How do I angle the venues I used to which were relatively low stock with few angler when they have been bought and turned into higher stocked commercial venues that bare no resemblance to what they were? Even the landscape of many has change with trees cut down and snags removed to create more swims and revenue. Move with the times yeah let's ignore hs2 and all the development going on over the country distroying vast areas of our countryside;, hey ho.
