It's not like you stand and hold them all day.... Tbh the shimano, penn etc are all too big for 10 footers imo, something like ss2600 would be far better suited

If you are that clueless about the size of these reels, your best bet would be go and see some of them. Standard size big pits on 10ft rods look ridiculous and unbalanced in my opinion - The Shimano 5500 is also too big (and poor quality), Fox FX9's are also too big imo ..... but you may think different about some of these and only by getting them in your hand can you make a decision - BUT ... try and get a set of Okuma INC6000 in your hand as one of the options would be my strongest advice (perfect size imo)

If you do a search on the net for your reel of choice just add “weight” which normally gives you that info.
I'm also considering new reels for my 10ft's as I'm currently using reels that are around 20 years old so have been following this with interest, however not seen anything suggested yet that would tempt me though, purely because I don't like heavy reels on light rods.
Personally I would take a reduction in longevity (as long as the price reflected that) if it meant a lighter, more balanced setup.
I don't believe the new shimano reels have a very good reputation on here, but in my opinion something the size and weight of a ST FB either in 2500 or 4000 ( 310g or 355g ) would be better suited to 10 ft rods.

I've just dug out my old Shimano super aero 10000 XTE baitrunners, they fit a treat, excellent balance, sorted.

I used to have a pair of the black with purple detailing, double handled 8000gte's. They were beautiful and would suit my current 8ft stalkers a treat, unluckily for me I sold them when I stopped for a while about 10yrs ago 😢

Definitely the 8000gte, just googled it and there are reviews about 2004. The purple detail was on the angled stem on the bodywork between the reel seat and reel body itself. re was a different model.

I had a set of GTE baitrunners and also regretted selling them. Have since bought a set of 3 x 5000GTE-C's baitrunners and a set of 3 x 8000 XTR RA Super Baitrunners .... They have been on and off rods for years ..... never sell the good baitrunners is my advice ,,,, leave them in the loft and one day you will want them

If you were asking goose ( post 30) then he appears to have flown. In his absence here are my thoughts.
It depends on a lot of things
You might need / choose a reel for it's line capacity, drag performance, casting ability or even looks
You might have a heavy 10 ft rod, they do vary even for the same tc so reel weight may not be so critical.
You might not need an inch perfect cast especially at close range that a light rod and reel can excel at.
Your idea of balance and preferences will probably be different to mine, especially as I seem to be in the minority, certainly judging from some of the suggestions, so try before you buy would obviously be the best solution.
That said I have a few different 10 ft rods from 2.5 lb tc upwards and tried 6 different types of reel on them, from a small light match reel right through to 6 series Baitrunners.
The above criteria permitting I always prefer a lighter reel if it's suitable.
My go to reels for most of my fishing on 10 ft rods are 4 series Baitrunners or fast drag 3s which are similar size.
