It's not safer abroad is it, because theeir cases are increasing, ares are relatively under control, as a direct result of measures like this.... We have an issue in this country of selfish entitled people who will look to pick holes in everything just fir the sake of it and just for themselves, regardless of the bigger pictures

All a bit emotive but people will have differing opinions i suppose. Think the guy was saying that theoretically you could get in your van on the drive and not get out until you got to the lake via eurotunnel, fish a week in a single swim and get back in the van and return home. Opinions will define if that's right, wrong, safe etc but it's an individual's choice i guess.

Surely the individuals choice is negated when told to avoid all but ESSENTIAL travel. As much as we'd like it to be, in the grand scheme of things, a bit of fishing is far from essential, if you pull the mental health card ou then go fishing closer to home, no reason to go to France at all

I can see both sides

1 is the need to cut this risk down as much as possible, this should of been done from day one on our little island. Travelling now does bring some risk and potential spread of COVID-19 so we should all be following the rules.

2 as others have said, sitting by a lake in the middle of the French countryside seems to be very little risk so people think why not. Add to this the desire for a break and people will look for the reasons they should be able to go.

Example, I have 2 weeks booked at goncourt in October, booked 2 years ago at a cost of approx £4.5k. I've not had a holiday since October last year, been extra busy through all this and need time off. Insurance will only cover maybe half the booking cost, so a big loss of money. Hard to take when you 'think' it should be safe sat in the middle of nowhere, especially when it's an exclusive booking lake.

But, what will be will be, I'd rather be safe and also not risk my at risk parents either. Although quarantine back home is no problem as I work from home.

I guess the point a lot of people are trying to make is people are still going fishing in the UK, still going to pubs, restaurants, parks and beaches without thinking twice.

Yet it's being frowned upon for sitting in a car on your own driving to France. Camping outside for a week isolated from most other people. IMO I'm more at risk going out in this country than I am spending time wife my wife fishing in another.

Everyone will have different opinions and everyone is entitled to them.

Fingers crossed the borders don't close before Saturday..

If anyone needs Travel Insurance Insure and Go are still offering cover:

Think everyone is focusing to much on their own trips/plans/opinions than rather the bigger picture

The Government don't care about people travelling to France in a car to sit at a lake for a week, play golf, go camping and all the other “socially distant” activities we could do

It's a bit of blanket advice that covers everyone as it's the easiest way of getting it through to people without everyone asking a million questions like this is safe, that's safe, I'm only going here etc

The advice is pretty simple and clear

Avoid all non essential travel to France 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you feel your fishing trip is essential for whatever reasons then that's perfectly fine, travel to France, fish your week, quarantine when you get back

Basically there's 2 choices. Fish and quarantine or don't travel

“Basically there's 2 choices. Fish and quarantine or don't travel”

Or use the third option, fish and dont quarantine if you can claim exemption. The list provides for much flexibility of interpretation as long as you can provide evidence.

Having said that, i have never been asked for evidence of my PLF on reentry via the eurotunnel route, either when the Uk has required quarantine or not.

Perhaps the Government will come up with an algorithm to sort this situation out! I don´t agree with their decision to treat the Spanish islands under the same quarantine rules as Mainland Spain, on the other hand I also cannot see how you can allow travel to certain parts of France and have different rules on returning to the UK from other parts of France. I suspect that most people still intent on going to France for a non essential fishing trip will probably not bother to quarantine! In my experience over 1/2 of the anglers I have met in the past have been self employed and with the extension of the financial support scheme where many are able to apply this week to get further support, this is a golden opportunity to supplement their self employed earnings with the Government support and cover the cost of a fishing trip and 2 weeks quarantine, you lucky people, us pensioners have received no support, though we can afford the time to quarantine.

I just returned to France from UK. I flew in over on Sunday and flew back to France this morning. No checks on paperwork. No questions. In fact I saw only 2 border force officials when I got into Stansted airport on Sunday afternoon. I filled out all the forms.....no calls....no knocks on the door. Flew back to Limoges airport this morning.....no checks. No questions. All rather bizzare.

They'll only track you through your phone. I know people who are self employed and wont quarantine because of no wages, thus leave their phone at home to give the idea that they are self isolating should people trace/track their number.
