The best, therefore probably most carpy anglers I've met over the years tended to have really shabby tackle and motors. Go back 30 years and they had it all, long unkempt hair, shaggy beard, roll up hanging out the corner of the mouth, beanie hat that never left their loaf, escort van with one hub cap missing, rolling baits on the bank. They were carpy before carpy was a thing - the true pioneers of carpiness.

Do not offend the old gods of the ancient magic. I have hand knitted wooly jumpers older than most carp anglers. They are above the mutterings and moans of mere mortals. It takes 20 years to mature a fishing sweater. As one young believer said "cor, it smells of grandad". Tread very carefully.
