Tbh the guys lack of experience is a factor in his verdict, I'd bet by now he's realised you can reverse the check pawl if your right handed and have the line off the top
And that the brake/drag is particularly useful when Wallis casting
It's also a factor that the sheffield was around £100 then, the bj maybe £250, the okuma is now £200+ while a bj can be found for less than £300 (

The sheffield is an excellent reel for sure, and to the reviewer it was a better choice, but he wasn't using the bj to its potential, didn't understand features of it and had it set up wrong.

Well, I was hoping to post a picture of a nice fish caught on my new centrepin as the Mrs gave me a pass for 4 days this week...then my ankle twinged last Thurs and here I sit admiring the lovely fishing weather outside beyond a badly swolen ankle!
Back to topic, In Feb I bought a new Okuma Sheffield as Bobco had them on offer at a price which I hadn't seen bettered anywhere, so it would have been rude no to. Can't wait to get it out on the river or maybe after a Carp.

How's your luck
Been doing a lot of early morning trotting sessions this past week with the youngs atom
I'm hoping the new one they have coming has the drag from the river specialist, I'll have to get one if so, but it sounds like it's just a black version of the atom

Once the doc suggested it I had a 'Google' like you do...check...check...check..sudden realisation it's been going on for years..oh well. I know what flared it up this time, too many BBQ's a few weeks back...and beer

At one point I thought gout may be the cause of my knee problems but luckily it's not, doesn't sound nice tho
Had some nice roach and gudgeon but mostly small dace, the better spots for carp and barbel are getting hammered so ill avoid them till it settles a bit
The Triton is a black version of the atom, last I checked they hadn't released any pics of it. I may get one anyway, but if it has the 2 stage drag I'll buy it on the spot
The atom is lovely tho, quite heavy but it balances my long rod nicely

That's a lovely looking pin.
My trusty okuma Sheffield has served me well for trotted stick float chub to 7lb. I would like to splash out on a nicer pin though this one seems made to last.

It does look lovely but it doesn't have the 2 stage drag

The river specialist is a nice reel too, I just prefer true pins for the situations that reel is suited for or I'd have one by now

Not many bearing reels nicer than the sheffield tbh, some are better for particular purposes tho

I have spoken to Gary Mills about a custom version with a couple of tweaks, but the costs get a bit silly. I'm waiting for one of his perfection reels closer to what I want but the ones I've looked at are either unsuitable or sold out before I see them

Do you have a lovely display cabinet, bet you do, don't worry I'm just jealous
I'd have to lock them away, the thought of someone nicking them, kind of ruins the point of such beautiful creations*
* my house was broken around 30 years ago, it's stayed with me to this day, drives the Mrs nuts.

My Mrs would love that
I don't buy them to look at tho, nearly all are on a rod and getting used regularly.
The ones I don't use much are the walton and my aventa pro
I keep threatening to sell the walton but never seem to list it
