I mean the content is a high majority of cork dust, and the boilie is almost a binder. By all means give them a go yourself, if you're ordering bait anyway, the pop ups are only a fiver. Be aware, the photo on the website is of the old pop ups. I love baitworks and have been using them a long time, mainly AH, but have tried the range. I used to be a huge fan of the AH cork dust pop ups, which caught me PB mirror and common from two very difficult and low stock venues. I would love to see baitworks rolling back on the original recipe again. I understand there may be some changes around use of a certain red colour, but the consistency and ability to retain flavour has changed massively. I am not slating baitworks in any way at all, and will likely continue to use their freezer bait, however I'm still looking for a quality pop up. I've attached some photos, the original is the red, smooth bait, and the newer coarse, brown bait with a high quantity of cork. I have no doubt they're ok on commercial waters etc, but I can't afford to be questioning my hookbaits.

Spot on mate, they're are absolute dog **** and Baitworks need to have a look at themselves based on the **** they chatted to me about the pop's and waffters.
Looks more like Black Pudding than decent bait.

Out of interest, are the brown baits in the pic the new AH ones? If so, is the AH freezer bait now brown or still red please?

Joe. You seem to think like me, that the hookbait is the single most important bait that you use. I'm fishing a low stock pit and after going through loads of manufacturers of pop ups that I simply didn't like. For the last couple of years I've been making my own and I'm so much happier. I know exactly what's in them and what amounts. I can have any combination of colours or buoyancy etc etc. Plus it takes an hour to do a one egg mix and you get tubs and tubs of them. With some really great help from a few guys on here I've even managed to get them to the exact hardness I like. Have you considered going down this route as well? I get all my ingredients from BAF.

I'm no bait buff. But even a blind man would tell you there not the same.
Have you spoke to baitworks about it Joe??

those hookbaits look shocking.
no good making the perfect boilie a complete food source for carp and ignoring the hookbait!
id be more confident casting a single bait coloured well and made with top attractors that fishing a garbage hookbait over top notch boilies.

hi wayne, I wouldn't mind quizzing you on rolling your own pop ups.
I have done a few of the sticky baits hookbait kits and did well, but I know doing my own basemix will be cheaper and yield more.

Agree with all of the below comments. I've got great confidence in the freezer bait, and know it's good quality, but there is no point in the hookbait being the least attractive item out there. I like to get my rods on the spot and leave them for the majority of the session. I'm very pleased to hear I'm not the only one who thinks they appear to be rubbish!
Rolling my own - I have considered it and any tips would be appreciated. I need to have 100% confidence my hookbaits are booming on the spot.
Speaking to baitworks - Yes I have, I was rather miffed last year, I ordered 20kg and 3 pots of pop ups, dissatisfied doesn't come close. They were good and came back with a free bottle of booster, but again, the pop ups just don't have the ability to take on any long term smells, or curing. I would love BW to go back to their original recipe, but I can't see that happening as they appear to be OK with what they're sending out now. I actually sold all of the pots on eBay as I will not be using them. I did send BW the comparative photo, but they just said it was to improve buoyancy.

I will do my best. I'm not a bait expert by any means, but I know what I like in a bait and I catch fish on what I roll, so to some extent they must be ok. I'm sure if one of the proper experts on here saw what I put I'm they'd tell me there's too much of one thing, or not enough of another, or I'm wasting money by using two things that do the same job etc. I'm not that clued up enough to know. But I'm happy to try to answer any questions you have from my basic experience and I'm sure the more knowledgeable guys will chip in anyway.
Should have added I only make hookbaits these days.

Yes mate, the Brown rubbish is the new AH pop up, the waffters are the same except they don't really waft.
The freezer bait is still the Red'ish colour.

I need to do some corks myself, are you using the matching basemix for your food bait or using something else?
Watching a trap in the margins the other day the food baits were crawling with naturals after ten minutes and the low pop up stood out like a sore thumb as it wasn't covered in snails etc

If I make match the hatch type hookbaits then I tend to use either a dedicated hookbait kit, or boilie basemix which I add a bit of extra attractors to, I then make cork balls using the CC Moores ball maker machine as you basically can't get it wrong.
For my fluro hookbaits I tend to add a lot more additions to the BAF mix as I think you can get away with it. Cos it's not a thin skin like on a cork ball.
I've tried with cork dust in the past but the results were hit and miss at best.

Try something like:
70g BAF pop up mix
10g Egg Albumin
10g Whey Gel HG80
5g Paprika
5g Chilli powder
1ml Paprika Oleoresin
1ml Black Pepper Essential Oil
5ml Shellfish Sense Appeal.
This should get you quite close to original Atlantic Heat, (minus fishmeals) . As Wayne says, the BAF mix is excellent.
