Still not enough to prove anything except they are best mates, if I had a serious edge (and believe me I've been trying seriously hard to find one!) I would share with my 2 best mates, as I do give them my hookbaits etc now..

Having read that document It seems its actually the 'scent' given off by the host fish that has been implanted with the PGF2A, and that even heavily diluted this remains attractive. So I don't think they are just pumping this drug in to lakes. Is it possible if it is happening someone has sacrificial fish that's implanted in this way and the output is then harvested?

An interesting read. At the end of the paper it reports that the implants are much less effective (one tenth) outside a spawning period.

I think you're getting ahead of yourself. This document just describes the use of it as a fish attractant in the US (over 10 years ago) and gives a bit of background detail. The general idea of pheromones has been around for 20 years. It was always a matter of time until someone decided it would be a good idea to use it in bait as an attractor.
The scary bit is the other uses of this stuff, for inducing birth or even abortion in horses and cattle.

From all the different sources (podcasts, published docs, faceache etc) it sounded as it was just added to a carrier substance (soil was quoted in one instance) and spombed into the swim. As it fell through the water Colum you would get sufficient dispersal.

Just think about it... if there was zero of it in the lake and you added 100ml, its still 100% more then was in the lake to begin with if regardless of if its 90% effective or 10% effective

That end couple of lines sums it up for me.... the silence is deafening at the moment... only time will tell if that wall comes down and this is just the tip of the iceberg..... or not! All i know is ive got 3 rods out... wind blowing through my hair and not a hormone or pheromone in sight.... i hope! Lol

The main difference between hormones and pheromones is that hormones act inside the body, changing the functions and behavior of the animal whereas pheromones act on another animal of the same species by changing the behavior.
I would say Pheromones but then it could be Unicorn piss 50/50 with Irn-Bru on a low simmer for all I know as with all the other semi professional virgins posting their thoughts.

You are quite right my friend. Excuse my silly joke. By “effective” the authors were referring to their goal of gathering carp together for removal. An angler might have different thoughts about what is “effective”.
