As I say we'll have to wait and see.

We really should fire up coal mining again........
Who's going to do that then?
Fruit farmers can't get anyone to pick apples, can't see many queuing up to chip out anthracite half a mile underground.

23% increase on fuel duty as from next march. Equates to about 12p a litre on top of what we already pay. Sh*t will hit the fan tomorrow when that comes out!!

Especially when you consider that more than half of what we pay per litre is already some form if tax / duty....

What makes it even worse is that ethanol contains less energy than petrol therefore E10 contains less energy than the old E5.
That will mean less power and less mpg using the new E10 compared to the old E5.
So we will be using more and paying more per litre as well.

With the shift to electrification the price of petrol and diesel is only to go one way....

I've already noticed that. Definitely less mpg than previous fuel

I can't say I've noticed.
What I have noticed is driving slower on motorways makes a difference.

I believe the duty is the same for each grade of fuel so all should rise the same amount presumably.
The costs of E5 and E10 should then get closer as a percentage, so cost per mile should get closer taking the difference of mpg into account.
I might consider going to E5 exclusively then even though two of our cars will run on E10.
Very little environmental difference when energy and mpg loss is taken into account and if the cost difference closes a little then I shall be definitely considering using E5 only.
Also I don't trust E10 sitting unused in my petrol tank for long without it getting up to mischief.

Ethanol energy 27MJ/ kg. Mega joule/ kilo
Petrol energy 46 MJ/ kg
If E0 was available down this end of the world I would probably be using it now.
Agreed on the speed thing though.
