It's governed by council district - if you read down into the guidelines, that's how local is being interpreted. I drove 22 miles to fish today and 22 back, zero problems. In fact, chap a few swims up was a copper - he'd come a similar distance within the same CD and saw it the way it is. Unlike the over zealous tits handing out fines in Derbyshire.

I'm sure you realise that by local they mean close to home and not nearest park/ lake etc which could 10 or even 20 miles away.
The rule makers are obviously busy but perhaps they need to give a bit more thought and clarify what they mean by local, especially to help curb those who will push things to the limit.

I think what the government meant to do was simply allow people out for a day in the open and keep them out of the parks and take away cafés, which are actually busier than a normal January. But anglers being anglers are making it 100 times more complicated than it needs to be.
If folk want to go fishing, then just go.
If not, don't.
If they told us how many beans make 5 people would find a way to disagree over that too.

Only local travel is permitted for the purpose of daily exercise as set out in the Government's travel guidance here
This specifies the ‘local area' – ie. town, village or part of the city in which you live. However, there is a recognition that there will be a need to travel for outdoor exercise. This should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel a short distance within your area to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space).
Anglers will need to apply commonsense and judgement in defining their local area rather than fixating on parish boundaries. A lake or river in a neighbouring parish may well be closer than one on the other side of the same town. In short, you should be fishing your nearest available waters.
If you have no local fishing available then you will have to take your daily exercise in other ways.

As it's open to individual interpretation people will do as they see fit. The police have been told it's down to the individual officer to make their own call on it, so people have the same freedom. If it boiled down to it then a police officers opinion is not a valid reason for prosecution. Plenty of loopholes out there if you want to go find them.
Lakes aren't rammed, it's not like it was after the spring lockdown last year.

Absolutely correct. In the absence of firm clear rules people do what they want, find loopholes, excuses etc without thinking whether they should.
This doesn't only apply to fishing but looking at the amount of people in the towns and on the roads this lockdown is a joke.

They can say what they want but people are not listening anyway.There is not enough police to enforce the laws and let's be honest I can see why people are not listening.Boris is a bumbling idiot who nobody takes seriously and he's handled this situation really badly from the start.

It's come at a very unfortunate time not because I want or need to go fishing that can wait it is because we were right in the middle of draining, de-silting, sorting out the stock and fencing my mates lake between ourselves/syndicate the travel restrictions and stay at home has put paid to this for a while, oh well back to the essential key work that is construction.

NHS staff are refusing to have the vaccine, having the builders in is at their own risk. Or maybe they've had the vaccine so see it as less of a risk if they get it.
No one is paying much attention because everyone is sick of it now. Stumbling from one lockdown to the next with little offer of hope for the end of it. Then they bring out scare tactics such as the new adverts of people dying to try and scare people in to following the rules, it didn't work with cigarettes, do they really think it'll work with this?
Until a solution and timeline is offered no one will pay attention. Too many ifs and buts and fantasy talk doesn't give people hope, it indicates it doesn't matter what people do, the situation won't change.
