Ah, good stuff thought so
So, as I've never tried killing then eating other than the odd one on the bank, I'd imagine there's no need to purge if you remove the tract manually (like cleaning prawns) but can you rid the clay smell from dead ones by soaking in water at home...hmm can't see any reason why not, anyone tried it? I'd imagine that's what restaurants do or am I wrong? I know the chap who did it on my syndi didn't flush with fresh water, just held in a tank at the water/in the water for a few days.

Wierd isn't it, NuttaS never did it for me. When I came back to fishing I wanted a nut based boilie (dynamite had stopped Banana Nut Crunch) and a marine, I opted for S7 which had just been launched and NS. I ran them along side each other for a year and the NS was massively outfished everywhere I went and at all times of year by the S7, so I stopped using it.
I think DNA could do with a nut/milk/bird option

Going Back to the dna smoke
Bought 2 bottles soon as they come out SLK & BUG,I then looked at how I will use it so last week I done a few days on a public lake I've had fish last year out to 27lb not an easy water very few swims and overgrown, very silty and can be really shallow in the summer times and the birds can be a nightmare along with the swans knecking for the loose offerings.
So.......
I went to poundstetcher and bought some bags of dried soldier fly and various insects including mealworms(the bags they use to feed the bird life on tables)£1 a bag thinking with spring here and insects about it may work.
Then I got my blender at home and blended a few packs and mixed it up with DNA insect meal to baulk it out ,I then added liquids bug & hemp oil to bind it and made 12 small(ish) balls of ground bait (after letting it soak all liquids up)using a Nash ball maker,I put a hole in each one and put them in a carrier bag and froze them, when I was ready to go I put them in my cool box so they slowly thawed and then put market float out and the holes in the balls of ground bait was then each filled with smoke, then they were fired out over my marker float and I put 2 pva bags of pellets over that spot along with 2 dark pop ups.
Ended up catching 2 a 15 & a smaller one in 24 hours ,I think it's got a place in my fishing maybe not everyone's,my next test for it will be on the canal where I'm starting to bait up from next week before I do 4 days on there after a nice big mirror(haven't had one in 2 years been all commons)and hopefully another 30 from there.
Funnily enough going back to that lake I had the 2 fish exactly 24 hours apart one on Wednesday morning at 5:40 and the next morning at 5:40 again, they don't usually follow that pattern but still happy to catch

Mate 1 things for sure, effort = reward and your not short on effort, I doff my cap.
I'm sure you'll get the results you're working for, good luck on the canal
Keep us informed.

Will do mate it's a 14 mile stretch between locks haven't had one out since 2019 none after Covid, all my fish since then gave been from lakes,I had 6 in 2019 lost about 4 as well from April to September 2019.
The fish I had from canal were
5lb
10lb
11lb
16lb x 2
32lb
This year more effort to be put in to prebait it and hopefully have one of the 3 30's in there,I've got the bait to stop them in their tracks and keep them interested

Nutta was my all time favourite and gutted when they stopped it.
Never done very well on s7/slk but been using bug for a year or so and done well on that.
But they defo have a gap in thier range for a nut based bait.

I've heard via YouTube from the dna guys that the switch will be sold only during the Winter a but like DT baits with their green beast

I have only recently started to become interested in the goo/smoke/glug options. First time out with the SLK smoke this weekend on a very tricky small water I have fished for many years. The fish do not give themselves up easily and I've had many blank sessions in the past
I was using the SLK smoke on Ronnie sticky krill popups and I managed three decent fish (for there) including a gorgeous fully scaled one that has not been out for ages and another very rare visitor to the bank. Obviously I can't say the smoke caught me those fish but I am sure it must have been a contributing factor and as a result I will be continuing to use it and see how my results fare.

Do people think these smoke liquids work principally visually or through scent?
Lake I'm fishing is very silty, not sure if adding more clouding to the water will have any useful effect.
Currently I glug and dust DNA baits with their other liquids and powders. Been using bug but have also stocked up on SLK as wanted to give a fish meal bait a go in the summer.

Imo it's the chemical signals given off by the solutions constituents in the water (dissolved or otherwise) that attract, a bit like bolie glug etc. The difference I'm guessing is that smoke etc is designed more importantly to rise in the water column giving the fish something to home in on, personally I'm not so sure the visual is that important.
So yes I think it would work well in silt.

I think it works in silt too as the lake I fish it's very silty and I've had 2 so far from that lake

Just a word of warning - I used my DNA smoke for the 2nd time yesterday. Shook the bottle as instructed, took the nozzle cover off, there was a gurgling sound and almost the whole bottle exploded out of the nozzle. It was pouring out six foot in the air!! I had opened it indoors to coat some hookbaits and the result was the liquid went all over the floor and up the walls. No idea why it happened but I have emailed DNA to see if I had a dodgy batch or if I had done something wrong. The bottle had been stored in my fishing cupboard which is maintained at a reasonable temperature so it hadn't been subjected to high temps! No clue what happened but the house stinks and it took ages to get the smell off my hands!
