I work for a well known paint retailer ( not b&q)and my local store turned over £70000 just on
wallpaper this year and hundreds of thousands on paint and that's just one of our stores

This proves nothing lol. Absolute idiotic tunnel vision. Loads of industries are thriving, where people are cutting back in more extravagant ways to spend money, and then for instance, spending more money on DIY.
This is like a pub claiming there's no crisis as they have more customers than ever.....when their used to be 5 other pubs in the local area that have closed.
It's the people right at the bottom of the chain who are hit the hardest. Those vulnerable people the daily mail are telling you are the problem.

How many people have credit cards and are willing to chuck hundreds on a card just to change the look of their living room? Plenty. Just like many are willing to spent ten times that to have "73" on their number plate. Human beings are shallow, and many would rather pay money for an image than substance.
Coffee shops, Nail Bars, Pubs & Restaurants are busy due to our addiction to substances, our addiction to our image, our addiction to fast food, and this countries inability to stop money laundering (but that's a different story).
People pay 800 quid on Barrows because we've had 20 years of everything being made easier for us, and if people are spunking 400 notes per month on an Audi they'll never own, they won't batter an eyelid on a 800 quid gadget. The days of cheque spreads are long gone now, and it's far easier to stick tackle on a Klarna or a Pay in Three.
The tackle shops and tackle "developers" that adapted to the 2023 mindset of sell, sell, sell and embraced modern tech will survive long into the future as long as they tap into the thought process of modern society. Angling Direct and others with modern and functional EPOS and Ecommerce has absolutely rinsed the market, whilst other shops who relied on print media died along with the 95% of magazines. I still need to pick up some of the train spotting magazines in WHSmith and find out how the hell they can survive, yet the print media promoting 400 quid rods cannot.

I honestly didn't think I had to explain it..
In the last year my mortgage went up over 50%, all my household bills have gone up, diesel has settled at constantly over £1.50 a litre. And the job I was in last year, we were very lucky to receive a 2.5% pay rise.
The cost of living, the things you need to buy to live, has gone up astronomically., but wages haven't.
Of course lots of people have cut back on extravagant spending, holidays, eating out. Jist because you or your family has t had to, doesn't mean it isn't effecting others.

Eating out, probably down but i bet the takeaway sector is healthy, nothing in crisis around here on both counts.

There is no benefit to a government or businesses to have you believe theres a crisis, its the circle of life, everyone has ups and downs just as mortgage rates have, did you post on here about how good the government was and how great life was when interest rates were at there lowest in generations?
