I've just looked on the TFL site and copied this from here. If I'm reading it right then if you buy a petrol car then you need Euro4 then Euro 6 is for diesels. Which screws me cos although the lakes are outside the zone, unless I buy a new van then I won't be able to go to Harefield or denham without paying £12.50. So no more trips to Harefield tackle after August. FFS.

It's not just London this effects but the whole country as when other towns see how much money this is making they will all follow on.

Apparently Croydon council amongst a few others (Bexley, Bromley, Hillingdon and Harrow) are starting a legal challenge to block the plan

The mayor only has control of London borough's so where you see the extended zone is the furthest he can go.
I'm reasonably sure this is correct.
Agreed that this looks like a cynical money grab, if people buy new cars they are damaging the environment futher, EV's being the worst environmental polluters to manufacture and long term environmental damage due to the materials used in batteries. And don't get me started on the electricity that is generated using up to 80% fossil fuels - gas and coal in the UK - hardly environmentally friendly, the only way EV's ever make sense is if you drive them something in excess of 200k or keep them for 15 years. That and the fact were being charged more for electric while petrol/diesel in going down.

Getting a S/H low co2 output diesel is the best option from a cost and pollution perspective if you do enough milage, petrol being the best option if you don't do a lot of milage.
One thing is for sure, there will be a lot of euro 5 and older diesels on the market very soon and this will suppress values which while bad for owners is good for buyers, it might be a better idea to replace your car now than wait till nearer August when it goes live.

The other problem with doing it now is the car / van market, second hand values are very strong and for those fortunate to be able to buy a new vehicle the deliveries are very long, still some manufacturers are quoting year deliveries.

I believe these zones are demanded by the government, but left to to local authorities to identify and implement.
As an outsider looking in on this as a London issue I've little sympathy tbh.
The average spend per head by our taxes on public transport is £650. In my area it's less than £600. In London it's over £1200😳.
Again as an outsider is it unreasonable to get people to use what is costing the rest of us dearly?

Yeah Gerry. Walk a few miles with all your gear. Get a tube. Change to an overland a couple of times. Eventually get off at denham. Push your barrow about three miles on roads with no pavements up to the lakes. Perfectly doable for a pensioner who had poor health. Bloody Londoners and their public transport.
And another thing. Don't you even dare think about making a journey outside of London that might require you to need a car. You stick inside the M25 with all your lovely transportation links.

A lot of cities are doing the same. It's not exactly a surprise is it, cities are becoming more and more choked with vehicles and air quality is p*ss poor. If you drive a more polluting car or van then you pay for it. Or maybe we should just leave it to become more and more gridlocked.
It's the government that's rinsing the entire population of their money. Reading these posts I wonder if Khans surname was ‘Smith' he'd be hated as much.

What a weird post. So people who are being forced to take on debt to replace perfectly good vehicles in the midst of a cost of living crisis are only complaining because they are racists.

the Stiff MOT emission tests prevent polluting vehicles
plus its based on LIES about any benefits there is however evidence that the effects are at best minimal and at worst the lower speed limit and traffic jams with engines running in grid lockes make it worse
