Thanks everyone for the advice I'm gonna see if I can special order the acurix or the free spirit es there is only really one major online retailer for carp tackle in the USA if not maybe I can see if Johnson Ross can ship them to me.
Stupidly sold a set of 2.75 X-Lites a few years back. Have to say that although they were great rods, light and crisp and super accurate on the cast I didn't feel they had a real parabolic through action ‘players rod' type feel. Is there a difference between the ‘S' model?

The S is a basically a stepped up version, I don't think Nick did those in 2.75tc.
The beauty of the X lite is that it almost has the action of a stick float rod, stiffish butt section and soft tip.
And yes, the non S version had a cross weave on them.
I'd love to know what the closest version to the X lite is, in terms of modern rods. Anybody any thoughts?

I can recommend the Harrison Acurix in 3lb.
I have been using them for 3 yrs now, I absolutely love the parabolic action they have.
I generally fish up to 80yrds out but have managed casts of 135mtrs + with relative ease. These rods are not designed for this but I was curious..
It is a big outlay, especially considering importing them, so I wouldn't recommend them if I didn't think you would appreciate using them given your comments regarding your desire for a players rod.
I own and use the original Century NG in 3.5 and 2.25 - both are fantastic rods, famed for their actions - the Acurix, for me, is just that little bit more of a joy to use, even in 3lb.

i havent measured the casting of mine (i use leads up to 1.5/2oz and occationally lob tiny PVA bags)
mine are paired with SS2600 so id say 60 yards is comfy

I quite like softer rods but can't stand mushy rods.
There needs to be some measure of progression as the rod curves through the blank and a bit of steel in the butt section.
I'd say the best all round players rod is something like a Harrison Ballista 2.75, they will whack a lead, can chuck a modest pva bag, will give lots of feel and action with a fish on but also retain some power deep down.
No doubt the more modern versions such as a torrix (2.5 - 2.75) will give similar results.
I did have Harrison Multicarp 2lb and although they were lovely and through action, a joy to play fish on, etc, they were very limited as the butt were too soft. Like a wet noodle

Funny you should say that as I don't even think of my 2 3/4tc Ballistas as 'players' rods.

I'd agree that the 2.75 ballista isnt exactly a "players" rod but using it as an example helps illustrate the difference between a rod with some lower down beef as opposed to a rod that might be too floppy.
I did say it's more of an all rounder players rod, not a true "through action" in the old Avon style.

Totally different action to the es, its actually a firm progressive blank, nothing like a parabolic players rod. Think anyone used to a ballista would find the es a poker.
