Have we fallen out?

I get messages of support, I don't know why those same people don't advocate publically probably because of the culture of the forum lol.

I remember a few of you hating me for saying ABs is bread, then advocating tge bait made by the guy that sent the pictures around. So it's a case of hating tge one that speaks his mind. At least with me you know what you get and most my posts are factual to people and help them with bait, most just sit and twiddle.

But the biggest joke is you all sticking up for the guy who's literally saying in a public forum tge health of the fish shouldn't matter.

You're criticising people for worrying abojt oil levels in bait when they put a hook in them - ask anyone with a professionally informed view what happens to carp on a high fat diet. They suffer in their health.

We did, because of all of the rubbish you were spouting criticising a new bait company

People that may or may not send you messages of support don't then back you up because of the bs that you write, alongside your booksmart bait knowledge

Just please stop hijacking and ruining almost every bait thread.

Whole thread ruined for the OP, poor lad was asking about a product that looks like its discontinued. First post is about them being too oily and harmful to the old carp, thread then spirals into what happened years ago when people piled in cheap oily pellets which has nothing to do with the original post.

Sonubaits S-Pellets were used as a hookbait product and sold as small 2mm 1kg bags so not used to pile it in! So unless anyone knows of a similar product that can help him out maybe start a thread about "Piling in oily pellets into lakes harms the carp" and stay out of this one!

Good post Jonathan, yes reading back I should not have responded in this thread and as you say started another, unfortunately I bit when and clueless comments started, apologies I should have moved on.

It is ok to discuss things like high oil and fat content in baits such as pellets as some of the younger members of the forum may not remember or even understand why it can be an issue.
Here is my take on it.
I am old enough to remember when salmon and trout pellets were mega! They were very attractive to carp to the point where they were pre occupied on them. The pellets of old were very high in oil, and maybe that is one of the factors that carp liked so much. Todays mainstream pellets are not like that but I'd also say that particles are used far more than pellets at the moment. I have managed to source some very good pellets that are no longer for sale in mainstream angling and trust me they are awesome. But, and it's a big but, how do you put something out there that is brilliant but can have a negative effect if every angler on the lake piled it in?
I'd say particle use is being overdone to death right now but are we seeing any ill effects? The answer is no, not really and that is because on every lake that I personally fish, the carp are getting a varied diet. Some good boilies, some crap ones, some poor particle, some decent ones.
The point I'm getting too is that all of these things are ok to use if the carp are getting them in the right quantities. It's up to us to make sure we don't do things in excess.
An oily hookbait is no problem to a carp at all seeing as he won't actually swallow it, and even if he swallowed 20 of them I'm sure he'd be fine

Interesting Gav, made me wonder as to how selective a carp would be if at all. If I baited a spot with a selection of hemp, maples, maize, maggot, sweetcorn, boilies, tigers and pellet. Assume it would depend on how hungry the fish was as to how much and what items it would eat.

I have performed that test many times and I see the same thing happen many times over.
I threw in maple peas, peanuts, hemp, boilies, tigers and pellets into 4 foot of crystal clear water. The carp circled, and drop down very quickly. The carp took the pellets and boilies first. Within minutes it was too stirred up to actually see what they were eating but one of the syndicate members went out in the boat as he had cast his rig up a nearby tree, and this spooked the feeding carp. What amazed us all was we could clearly see peanuts and tigers on the bottom but the bigger boilies and pellets were gone. Now before you all think I'm completely bonkers and anti particle, what happened next is typical of what carp do. They came back in and cleared off all the particles and the next morning, 6 inches of silt had gone and pure stone was shining through. I'm pretty confident that the hemp kept them digging on that spot!

I Often wonder if they go for the things that they regularly see or have been brought up on

Remind me, new company? I'm not challenging the validity of your statement it's just my recollective memory isn't always the strongest.

As for booksmart bait knowledge, it's a LOT of real world experience thanks. I was selling bait when other “brains” on here used to post simply questions.

It's jabs like that from people with Less knowledge that really irk me. I don't come on here for any benefit to me I think I've had an extra 5/10 orders? Which is absolutely nothing in real world terms to me. I came back in as every other forum is dead and I have a soft spot for them, having grown up with a very supportive owner of a former forum and it helped me develop. I believe it putting back in. Far more than a lot do as well.

Interesting observations, what they were brought up on more likely than what they regularly see could explain why some are seen but never caught as they must see bait regularly.

So looking back on it it was nigels comment to Glenn that sparked a disagreement. All I did was state that with tge attitudes of not being mindful what we feed them we'd end up with none left.

I'm really interested in who's in this little clique of “liners” as six of them seem to disagree with hooking carp for our own gratification? So unless they're no longer anglers and campaigning against catch and release then they're liking posts tokenistically, in which case why bother with it at all lol
