I've made comments about rubber in mad baits and their frozen bait not going mouldy even after months of being left out, long long before you made a reappearance on here. Not everything bait related revolves around you.

To give them their dues, I've caught some decent fish on their popups in the past and they're very buoyant.

Anyway, this thread is about salt so try to keep it on track

I think people are sick and tired of you

Some people just spoil threads, you spoil a whole section.

Rock salt in the wrong hands can kill a swim and ruin good going spots.

May i be completely honest with you?

You think your helping, but every single post you place, there is always a little hidden stab at either products, companies, people, or peoples opinions. You're quite good at it, but it comes across so obvious and it gets a tad wearing on every post you make. Now, i'm unsure as to your intention or motive, or even why?

Yes, we've messaged via Instagram and indeed on here, but your messages, 9 times out of 10, I have no idea what your actually trying to say, add to that, it's not the odd message I receive, it's one after the other, at all times of the evening or even during the night. When i don't respond, you send me more strange messages asking me what's wrong?

There is nothing wrong, i do however have 2 business's to run, a family to spend time with, dogs to walk, horses to feed, sheep to feed, land to look after, then at approx 9pm in the evening answer business e-mails, compile reports, animal welfare and slaughter licenses to process, and if i'm lucky, i might just be able to sit down to watch a bit of tv before bed time.

Nothing personal, i'm just a very busy chap

End of conversation

Anyway back to the OP I was told about the prowess of rock salt fifteen or more years ago when the lad who was using it told me he was having blinding results by attaching a mesh bag to his rig no bigger than a pingpong ball size when casting out he was possibly onto something as he was catching consistently and generally more than most on the lake.
I was holding my own but not catching as many or as often so went with his advice and it definitely improved my catch rate on that lake that season it's something I still employ now not all the time but probably for 50% of the year but a one kilo bag of rock salt is way more than I use in a year as that makes a lot of little mesh bags.

I couldn't ever envisage wanting to source rock salt in 25kg sacks as that employs using it in far to vast a quantity for my line of thinking and if its going in in that quantity I think more than an investigative trigger in a small mesh bag it could become overbearing and turn an area sour a bit like soaping a swim but that's just my thoughts on it, Epsom salt I also found effective.

Providing a consistent spot of salt for the fish is a good tactic, fish need salt to balance their body and osmoregulate, in freshwater it is hard to come by, hence they rub in clay for the mineral content. If you have a spot they can visit regularly to find salt then they'll defo use it. Probably wont fish on it but nearby. It also has the benefit on very weedy lakes of creating a dead spot out in the lake, which may be well worth fishing on come autumn time if you stop topping up with salt.

I am talking about putting a 500g out twice a week or even smaller quantities more regularly and not chucking in 25kg on a spot and building a salt mountain. You have to put it in the right place obviously but if you can get fish to visit it daily then you know you've got a chance being nearby.

OP have a look at Keith Singleton Horticulture, good price on 25kg sacks with delivery. use the search bar to find it.

Totally agree, but I bet you are aware of the situations you put them in before they get there, if you get my drift.

Anyway, will 50kg rock salt out of a road bin do?

It'll probably clear your drive of snow. I wouldn't use it for anything else.
Salt in small quantities may be attractive in the right circumstances.
What if you are fishing a lake with brackish water because it is near the sea or an estuary?

Probably be pointless as they'll have all the salt they need in the water to fulfill their requirements.

An interesting thing is taste, whilst maybe I being nutritional requirement, eating food with salt in it can enhance flavour, and flavour enhancers certainly have their place be it in addition to a recipe ot naturally within some ingredients.

If you add attractors such as belechan to your baits you're inherently adding salt for example.

Plenty of people use a sweet n salty spod mix. The salt neat salt crystals. I've played with dissolving it in when soaking particles such as maize, tigers and maples alongside a load of sugar. Can't say it made much difference but I didn't toy too much with levels though to refine it to anything conclusive. Good old TH uses a sweet n salty maize.

As a taste enhancer on a brackish pit probably useful but would the constant salt presence nulify it? pure crystals as a point of attraction largely useless. The brackish pits should throw up more big fish than they do. Science points to the best salinity level for carp growth is 2ppt and not fresh water.

Tell you what, i had a contract with swizzels Matlow a few years ago, they make drum sticks, refreshers etc, i managed to get hold of 5 kg test sample of sherbet crystals, if memory serves me right, its was raspberry flavour...ive never seen fish get so excited over something

You sure the fizzing wasn't just the sherbet
Seen sherbet added to dry Pva bag mixes so it's “active”
Are you sure?
