Oooh that'll be expensive, last time I was there it was a culinary delight, you could have fish and chips, sausage and chips, burger and chips or pie and chips all of which are about to rocket in price due to 30% price increase in spuds and 40% in wholesale fish prices.
No wonder they are expecting 40% of fish and chip shops to go down the pan with these increases and the hike in energy.

spent many a happy childhood in jaywick,used to work in my aunties bingo hall and amusement halls along the seafront..as for this week at orchards in a caravan it cost just over £1600 I've been to Malaysia for 10 days cheaper which included flight hotel and Moto gp ticket..@ goose, yes read about the fish and chips thing in todays times..do love me cod and chips but rising to a tenner might put me off.

Paid 11.60 last night before the price goes up and that was for large haddock regular chips.

4% labour cost on a finished product in a good uk manufacturing company
I have worked for some of the largest food manufacturers in the country, which have had different levels of automation & scale and i can 100% guarantee that the direct labour alone will never be 4% of a manufacturing cost. At least double digits minimum and that's in a highly automated factory - inflation tends to keep the balance between labour and materials costs in line. Also worth bearing in mind the extra that has to be paid by a company on top of the salary to employee (tax, Ni, Pension etc)
100% agree on the split between service sector and industry in the country....not a good position to be in at all.

I've nearly 40 years as an electrical/robotics engineer in automotive plants, tier 1 supplier's into those plants and the aerospace sector mate. Believe me that's the ratio if not lower as advancements are made. Efficient car plants run between €500-€1000 direct labour costs per car.

I've always wondered how car plants make any money. The one I worked at had over 2k people working there, even the guys on the production line were on really good money for a non skilled job.

The more efficient you are the more money in the pot for everyone to share mate. Efficiency isn't best achieved by making humans walk faster or be more dextrous in the age of machines. Automation, training and systems are. But that takes long term investment and an economic plan.
