. . .ok, here's a semi positive syndicate story . . .very tricky estate lake with more weed than water and 20 regular members. . .top rod was usually 15-20 fish per season, if you had a bleep over the weekend you were doing well, hooking and landing one was a different story. We all 'got on' but not a lot of info was shared, especially captures of the bigger fish and most were on their own bait of choice - with the naturals being prevalent everyone was looking for an edge.
That was until a local animal feed store (that some bought halibut pellets etc from) started to flog Dynamite frozen boilies at a low retail price (under £4 per kg) . . 'The Source' had just been released and a few had started to use it, not with any success but just pleased with themselves for the price point. Once word got around the whole syndicate was on it and it was being introduced in quantity and all over the lake.
Suffice to say the fishing improved dramatically - everyone was effectively pre-baiting for each other and the fish were tearing up large areas of the weed to get any easy meal. It was bar none the best and most consistent season on the lake, with everyone catching over double figures and reports of 'a brace of 30s' over the weekend were not uncommon.
. . .until some d*ckheads messed it up. A couple of new members turned up with buckets of Source readymades (presumably they didn't have the freezer space) and continued to bait up in volume. Can never be sure whether this was the actual reason or whether the frozen variant had just 'blown' but from that point on it returned to its previous rock hard status . . . . at which point everyone returned to doing their own thing again!

One of the best memories I have is when I was a member of Shillamill,nr Lanreath..
Here is why..!
Shillamill is on the otherside of the peninsula from me,a long way ,especially if you was young ,couldn't drive,or mother couldn't either,my only mode was bicycle or Frys coaches nr Tagel..that was it,no public transport at all..
So,I'd heard about the DAM festival at Shillamill,how I wanted to fish it,but no way..
Time passed,a lot of time..
I was married,kids etc,driving ,but still I craved to fish that place.i decided to see if I could get to fish it,so I needed a recommendation, drove up to the complex ,met Mrs Pearce and Rikky her son,they seemed positive and gave me someone's name who was a member,that person was NickSmith1,Nick I'd met before on an old lanson feral water..he remembered me,and I got in..so that was decent,of Nick..
However,there was only a few members,maybe four..me Nick Paul and Pete the sweep from Wales, but originally from this way at one point..
It was brilliant fishing, it was a clique,but a positive one..
God I loved that place,Mrs Peace would put fresh eggs on the roof of my 940,to make bait with for next time..
Some of the best small intimate fishing ever...

90% of the issues you hear seem to come from people being fish catching machines. Always tickles me Couldn't possibly be that they take themselves a tad too seriously.

Best thing to do if someone is catching well above the norm is to learn from them and apply it to your own angling, not even necessarily on the same venue... Being jealous and attempting to prevent someone from being successful just smacks of not being aware of one's own inadequacies, or being willing to improve... Don't need to be a sheep, just recognise where improvements can be made, and action them...

Not the number of fish, but I upset a bailiff catching a few 30s with an Avon rod and centrepin. It's roach fishing gear apparently

I must be lucky, I've been in a 30 man syndicate on a 25 acre lake for 5 years, only ever seen about 10 of them and only 4-5 fish it with any regularity, if there is 3 on it feels busy
I have no idea if it feels cliquey to a newbie but newbies are welcomed and there are no secrets. Every one shares info, swims are left alone if someone is fishing there, never any bad feelings whatsoever.

Vinnetrow syndicate, first year they made it so, I was 16.
I had just gotten dropped off by my lovely mother and I realised I'd forgotten filter papers, I relayed my dismay to my mum ( not intending for her to do anything ) and later in the day she rang the head bailiff about car access picking me up, in a few days time, she jovially mentioned my unbearable hardship and the head bailiff saw fit to buy a fee packets of rizla and drop them off his own back.
Another occasion and the second year “atm” as it were ( everyone meeting in the caravan park pub for their membership renewal ) and I rung them bailiff to ask if I could collect it the week after as couldn't get down, I live 20 miles away so 40 mile round trip and he offered immediately to pick me up and drop me off.
Fortunately I found other transport to save him the hassle but I guarantee he's of refused the petrol money bless him.
And it definitely natey wasn't grooming, I was an ugly youth with a less than cheery outlook.

Don't be put off,there are more decent people out there than you realise ..
I have found though ,there are very few true syndicates,more like subscription lakes with a covenant to do a work party or two..
Just make sure you get told all the rules when you join somewhere,and be careful the 'leaders',lol don't change the rules to suit themselves or a mate..
Also,communication is key,I know a place ,which had zero communication, and a lot of followers,who thought they owned the place,they'd change locks and key codes to get in willy nilly..
Just enjoy your fishing,you'll.soon see who the proper anglers are,mostly the quieter ones who won't be shoving a smart phone underr your nose ,to make the phallus look big..
Just be yourself,enjoy the fishing and surrounding wildlife..etc
