Have you ever fished the Thames at Sonning,by the weir?
Used to drive up in the early 80s with father,I was young and couldn't drive,remember catching nice perch under a road bridge using a FJT ,fibretube blank from Gerry Doughty.. ,and 330 ottomatic
Big adventure at the time,long old drive ..

I actually lived in Sonning for two years. You cannot fish up by the weir anymore, George Clooneys gaff is on the opposite bank, he purchased that field you would have fished from, it used to be RDAA. Strictly no fishing now. Police turn up in an instant too if his security, or the lock keeper see anyone in that field.

Yeah good memories of father n two uncles fishing off our boat,Maggot 111,..shame you can't fish it no more mate,there was or is a massive tree overhanging nr the weir,few of my spinners in that tree,lol..nr 51 yrs ago tho..

The Thames has long been a favoured haunt for such people to live and own properties mate. Not just rock stars and actors. The Sultan of Brunei and various other Arab Sheiks all own numerous properties along the banks of the Thames. They have been known to have security in the gardens with sub machine guns and the like.

Oh you just jogged a memory !
around 40 years ago I drove a Tanker and delivered heating oil (red derv) anyway had this job at Golders Green I arrived at this massive pair of gates with a 2 giant size cameras I presses the intercom thing and a guy answered and said when the gates open keep your truck windows shut and follow the road till you get to the building but do not get out of your truck open your door or windows until told to !
well drove round and could see cameras all along the tree lined road got to the building and 3 or 4 bloody big nasty dogs appeared by the truck running around then 2 guys hooked them up to leads and took them away
ok you can get out now driver as I pumped the fuel into the underground tanks got chatting and remarked the dogs didnt Bark at all ??
he explained they cant bark or make any sounds as they are trained guard attack dogs with their voice boxes cut as he said we dont want any intruders warned we want them caught and bitten !!! oh and the guards were all tooled up too !
it was a filthy rich Arms dealer that owned it all

Sir Micheal Caines house is / was ? up for sale @ £6.9 million
its called Rectory farm House and has 200yrds of river Thames frontage its in the village of North Stoke Oxon approx 3.5 km's downstream of Wallingford and nearly opposite the village where i grew up
i even did alot of work on the house and grounds and fished that part of the Thames for 30+ yrs

another piece of useless trivia ...approx 400 mtrs away was Ian Gillan of Deep Purple fame who had a house that became The Springs Hotel where my mum worked for him at one stage it went on to become a golf resort with approx 500 mtrs of private riverbank

Do you remember when David Walliams swam past us whilst we had the rods out? 20 boats floating around mid-stream, crowds of hundreds near and far bank, us pair of smelly old anglers sat there in the middle of it all... "Go on, David..!"

when I was 23/24 years old so would have been 1969/70
I was driving a 6 wheeled Guy Warrior tipper truck and delivered some sand to his mill house in Bray Windsor and the builders told me he was in bed with 2 women and had been in there for 2 days and the noise was unbelievable getting food delivered in lol
