Hmm not so sure I have had and still have a few mentioned :-

Baitrunner gt 6010's and 5010's
And emcast advanced
Plus a few others like the bblc's sold as they were tripe too heavy froze up in the cold.
Triton seaspins both sold as spares to someone as id killed them stripping a gear and bending a shaft
Put these against my penns I own only one is on a par with it for longevity and robustness thats he aerlex gtr
Ive currently three aerlex gt 8000's of which two are goodish the third has been canabalised to keep the other two running when bushes and bearings have failed the two I still use have needed to be sprayed after the plastic started bubbling abroad.
Gt baitrunners dont get me started I only managed to pass one on out of four as the others all failed big time bent spindles handles stripping etc
Emcast advanced considering these as all big pits are sea reels mine didnt like the surf gettig grindy with a bit of sand and corroding after the first visit despite being washed thouroughly.
Penns bought 12 or so years ago still going never miss a beat.......
Its why when I recently wanted some normal sized re I bought the slammer liveliners and im contemplating wheather to get some affinitys.
to replace my aerlex as I dont think they will last much longer

Some relevant points made but you're comparing older penn models built by a different factory to the new offering.
I've been drawn into pointless arguments over these bloody reels before and the truth is I couldn't give a monkeys, my only intention was to point out that a reel can be found at little over half the price of the affinity so according to the 'they're all the same' argument means they should cost the same

And the same is true for the shimanos were are the new ones made all mine are the old japanese ones. The penns I own are korean made and chinese made.

Just been informed by the wife blunt isnt the correct term abrupt is better
Probably a northern thin
Tad heavy handed but until recently having had two kids in quick succesion my gear was in use for six months as in 150 ish days a year. I doubt many could match that so I did tend to find fault with things more than most, add to that I didnt fish nice manicured waters but glacial lakes upland reservoirs and other larger venues and on one of them you needed to go to rather extreme lengths to get onto the water then gear was tested thouroughly

I am equally as guilty at wording things badly noodle. It does indeed sound like you're tackle takes some abuse.

Um im the only person I know who has dropped a full quiver down a rockface if that helps understand what I do to gear

Of course daiwa or shimano won't be losing any sleep, they are highly established in the carp anglers market. But i don't get how so many users of the Penn' can be wrong in terms of their performance.
What is your take on the performance of the Penn Conrad? Because i am at my wits end trying to figure out where abouts the other reels i have owned are any better, and cost 3-4 times as much.

You are paying purely for a name. Ok some shims and daiwas are maybe worth the price tag thos for blue water fishing maybe stellas and the daiwa equivalent but the average stuff we use is just overpriced beach gear

My only take on their performance is positive withe caveat that they were us built multis and were in another league completely to the far eastern penns in this thread . They lasted years without degradation and gave trouble free service but its not the same product or even manufactured on the same continent so the comparison with the penns that built their rep against the new offerings built by god knows who for pure fishing is a nonsense

well i can tell you that okuma make some great big pits ,ive had diawa emcast adv, then i moved onto the latest c14 shimano baby big pits think they were called xta c14 or summat, and for years i looked at my spod reel and thought you no what this reel is so bloody good im gettin 3 more,for my rods the okuma 65 distance, and at 40 quid each it was better than the c14, and 100 quid cheaper, infact after this, i could not see why people rave about shimano , now i must admit that the top end diawas are serious bits of kit basiair etc ,but look how much they are, so i know that with reels under 200 quid, other makes can still win

I had a set of those okuma s your talking about , I had the integrator pros which are the black bodied carp one and some of the surf versions with the pearl white body , they were pretty good reels ...........very smooth , good clutch , decent retrieve rate etc but I found they were almost identical in performance to the ultegra 5500xtb and had the same faults ie there was flex through the reel stem which I hated ........I themn changed to some ultegra ci4 which were way better , same clutch and retrieve rate etc but tighter and smoother with absolutely no shake in the stem , the body is completely rigid and a little bit lighter .
I would go as far as to say the ci4 is pretty close to the performance of my aero techs and and the equal of the power aero to say the okuma is anywhere close to it , is a load of absolute cobblers .
