Speaking to friends who do other activities, I think the same discussion is being had by many other groups.
I don't think the motocross track one was very convincing, but it seems its OK to drive your mountain bike to a bike venue because cycling is on the list.
BTW, looks like numbers of new cases have now leveled out for a few days, so that must be a good sign

And who defines what is a 'limited access lake'. God? How many car accidents or breakdowns are there in a year in the UK?... and how many of those happen if you don't leave your house?
Both syndicates I am member of are shut. One is a BCSG water... That's pretty limited membership. As regards the other one, you will lose your ticket if even seen on the water.
It HAS to be draconian for a while. People need to grow up, man up, and stop being self obsessed, self absorbed idiots. The quicker we all just do what we are told, the quicker we will all be out again doing what we love.... Safely.

This is another exercise in self justification. 1 trip a week for food, travel for essential medication and treatment, support for needy people and a local one hour session of exercise. Otherwise stay inside. We have got phones, computers, game consoles, books, crafts, hobbies, gardens, DIY, and cooking. The list is endless. You beat an incurable, infectious and for some deadly disease by breaking the chain of infection. If everybody does it we win.

Police are out on the roads today pulling the joy riders, not before time, personally I think they should have a huge detention centre for those that can't be trusted to follow the simple rules.

The met would have to have a recruitment drive to stop everyone out round here.

Before you fire off at me, I am not fishing, I am staying at home other than essential supplies and walking my dog.
If I need to put petrol in the car, it will be to do my essential shopping. I'm not walking a 15kilo bag of dog food 2 miles back from the pet food store, or 2 miles back from Sainsbury's with my normal groceries.
I actually filled my car up with petrol at the start of March, I still have half a tank left, so to go fishing wouldn't need to top up, or to do my shopping, but you get my drift.
Driving to and from the water, an accident could happen, as it could on the way to and from work, or on the way to the supermarket. No difference in risk.
I gave my views earlier in the thread, here are some simple figures for you about how the NHS in this country is in such a state.
There were 4900 ventilators in this country at the start of the Coronavirus crisis. Around 100 counties and health areas across the whole of the UK. 49 ventilators on average per area or county, across every hospital in the area. The UK was sadly short of ventilators, even BEFORE the start of coronavirus.
Sorry, I don't blindly follow the media frenzy, or even the 'misinformation' that politicians and media peddle.
As has been said by a few in this thread, if it were not for the media hype, then the deaths that are being put down to coronavirus would be just a slight increase for one years figures.
20,000 coronavirus deaths is the figure being quoted by government health advisors; 20,000 people expected to die with coronavirus, yet those 20,000 are infected, but WITH existing underlying health conditions, and would have died anyway, either now or within 6 months.
You are being force fed fiddled figures to make it sound worse.
Yet other figures from other sources, John Hopkins Hospital, Scientist.org reckon the deaths solely down to coronavirus in UK will be 1,400.
Do I agree with lockdown as it stands?
No. Close pubs, restaurants, gyms, the places where person to person transmission is highest risk. Work from home wherever possible. If you are ill, use common sense, don't go into work (I made my point on that a long way earlier in the thread), but continue to allow outdoor sports.
Then we need to find out from recovered patients exactly how ill they were, but we sure don't know exactly how many have recovered

We've done this for just over a week!!! Compared to some of the things I've done this is an absolute doddle, go home at night and watch tv / sort out my fishing tackle. Simples
Would attitudes be a bit different if the vast majority of the population were in the at risk class?

Must be wonderful to have a totally honest and reliable source of figures and information unlike all the other 65 million gullible idiots in the UK. I have 2 underlying health conditions but was certainly not planning on dying in the next 6 month as part of a small blip in the statistics. The government have used the NHS to identify not 20,000 but 1,500,000 people who are at extreme risk from covid 19. Just a bit bigger blip in the stats.

I'm actually allowed to travel – someone has to go and feed the Stock Ponds, but even then I'm not taking the Pee, twice a week - three max and combining the journey with anything else that requires a journey at the same time.
I drove up the M65 at dinner time - not a single vehicle as far as I could see in the distance and just the same in the rear view mirror, seemed weird.
I could go fishing on a pair of totally private secure Lakes, no one would even know/see me, I could go out in my Kayak for total self-isolation unless someone drops from the sky that is. But when the rest of the population are griming it – so should I.
I do know one lot who are seriously taking the Pee thou – Cyclists, never seen so many.

Not diy please, I'm much more likely to be a drain on the NHS with 15 minutes of power tool use than 15 minutes driving

One that doesn't constitute a social gathering, where you can practice social distancing as per government guidelines. I would be safer on both of my waters than in ANY supermarket or any other place where i can buy the things that i need.
This is not about being self absorbed, self obsessed or being an idiot. And the potential for me breaking down on any trip doesn't increase or decrease wherever l go.
Again, you miss the point that the travel restrictions are about reducing social contact and the risk of transferring infection from house to house and that simply going shopping is a much bigger risk to everyone than leaving the home to go fishing.
Or put it another way, being in a car on your own driving is not a risk in itself because in the car you are isolated.
I guess we won't agree but we don't have to. It's ok to disagree.

Limited access? Easy. All non day ticket waters
I'm not sure why a car breaking down would cause a problem?
@post 349
DIY and gardens? Not much you can do as you can't buy anything.
Hobbies? Mines fishing mainly. And football. Gym..
Crafts? I'm not a 63 year old women
Books? Fair point.
Games console? Neither am I a 14 year old boy
Computers? Meh
Phones? Pfft
@351
Detention centres for people that don't follow the rules? Have we become a police state?

I think you are being very selfish with your views, the best way to reduce contact is to STAY AT HOME!! i despair at the views of some i am going to work nearly every day and working longer hours more shifts putting myself at risk so people can have food when they have to go out to the supermarkets.
My sister works for the nhs in a very stressful job and has continued to work putting herself at risk to help others why do some idiots think its ok to go out for non essential travel and hobbies , id be far happier if she didn't go to work instead of helping the idiots that are making this situation a lot worse!!

Hi Nick,
Re your opinion on the lockdown, I hear what you say, because my syndicate has only 20 members on a 25 acre pit and we could easily adopt social distancing, providing nobody needs a hand landing a turbo charged fish and photos taken etc. To expect all anglers on all waters to strictly stick to the distancing rule is unrealistic. Human nature is such that a minority will flout the guidelines, like the weekend before last, when 1000s flocked to parks and beaches having a social, which then prompted the government to impose the lockdown.
Don't blame the government, blame the idiots who presumably think they are immortal.
BB.
