One of the worlds biggest and best reel producers entering the specialist market again perhaps
Or potentially a very good reel at a sensible price.
The only reason its this version being shouted about is its a carp badged version of oje thats been available for a while now. Ok its a different colour and you get two mono spools rather than one for pe lines.

it never ceases to amaze just how gullible carp anglers are but hats off to pure fishing for recognising the trend or niche market for this reel .
time will tell how good the reel is , as they are not the same as the old US made warhorses , whether they will be any better than any of the other Chinese made reels branded by korum , ck , still water , tfg etc , remains to be seen .

Don't you mean Conrad " whether they will be any better than every other Reel that's been made in China, OR all the parts made in China but then assembled in Japan"

If they had bodies machined from a solid Titanium Billet, Timken Taper Roller Bearing on the Pinions, Phospor Bronze Gearing etc............ I could understand the price.
But from a Reel costing £100 to one costing £650 + the fact is there is hardly any diffrence what so ever.

BTR 8000 RRP = £149.99
All around the same price?
But compare the build Specs. Hell the Penns are pratically a "Gift!"

That's a fair comment but ,
These Penns have slow oscillation , titanium main shaft , 9 ball bearings , a bail arm which locks the rotor for the big chuck , two spools ( both aluminium ) all for the princely sum of just over a ton .
It seems we are paying treble this for others with a name .
Also I have a good collection of reels , Shimano , Diawa ect , some top end and also the work horses described .
I,m sure they will live up to the £100 price tag .
It amazes me why some are bothered as they spend most of the time talking about kit instead of using it , let's face it it sits on the bank doing nothing most of the time for some

We all know those rrp's are nonsense. No shop sells emblems for more than £60, baitrunner re £55, aerlex (original) £50 until very recently, whereas the penns are £100+.
I accept the penn is a little more refined but that could be classed as over engineering in an item that essentially retrieves line from the water.
I've owned all sorts of reels in various price brackets and providing they don't fall apart all do the job, which is why I'm back using emblems.
As for the comments about tackle sitting at home, mine sits at home between fishing every week. I doubt a huge percentage of people on the forum can say they fish every week

I think you will find the qc on the cheaper reels quite a bit less stringent Keith
i am not saying they are rubbish , if they were i wouldn't have bought one , but i think recent market success along with their popularity on here has more to do with the asthetic than performance .............i don't think daiwa or shimano will be loosing many sales or any sleep over pure fishings latest offerings . what i really like is the way the manufacturer has reacted to to giving the punter something they actually desire ie the all black big pit reel .

Oh well I have drunk my tea I had better go and start prepping the gear as I,m off fishing Friday for the week in sunny France with the Penns.
Note to myself , don,t forget to pack a set of spare reels just incase
