if you look at daiwa and shimano at the same price range as the penn the quality of the build and componants will probably be the same, its not a bad reel to be fair,but a folding handle with wood could have been better, time will tell.

I've been watching the thread for a while, as I like the 'look' of these reels, although I have no personal experience of Penn reels.

Difficult one with fox, sure I read on here ages ago that there was problems with fox reels, they dont get mentioned a lot so that might tell you something.

My mate has the fox reels , can,t tell you if they are any good thou he don,t catch much

But you could buy 18 of the Affinity 8000's for the price of 3 Basiairs and still have change?
I've used the Affinity 8000's from the day they was available via the trade, and they have been faultless
But these all Black Ltd 7000 versions really do make me wish they had been available when I got the 8000's
They seem to be just what everybody wants- and a sensible price, as your not just paying for "The Company name", which seem to have been the case for many, many years.
All credit to Penn for putting some "Cats amongst the Pigeons!"

Forgot to add 'you can add glitter though'.
Still not getting everybody raving about these reels. They are good value and they don't look too bad, but that is about it in my eyes. Saying that the only experience I have of them is a friend got some gold lipped ones on a whim instead of his Basiairs. 1 broke and the other 2 didn't stay on there long
What don't you get ? You have stated in your post the attraction, value for money and they look good, the only thing they won't do that your mate's basiairs will is attract thieves although I doubt the clutch will seize up in the rain either.lol.

No it doesnt (well maybe black is the exception) ... Wooden handles are just a dated look on modern reels
