Wish I'd seen this thread a couple of weeks ago, I've used Syncro for years and bought some more 15lb recently to re-do the reels and wondered if I'd done something wrong.
Doesn't sit on the spools properly, added to that I had one break on the cast and another on a fish - didn't know why at the weekend but will be stripping it off before my next trip.
Now need to decide what to go for instead, the TA OGX looks interesting, but other than that it's between the hyper sensor or the fox exocet.
Any suggestions?

I’ve gone back to Gardner Pro Dark Blend now. Gave up with Synchro when it changed, couldn’t get on with Kaizen at all and Sensor seems to be like gold dust and the stupid nicks on the bottom of the spools really p1ss me off lol 😂

I use Gardner pro in 12lb on my casting rods, quality line & cheap. Just a shame the higher breaking strains arnt quite as good.

Have been a long time admirer of XT. but after a few chats with fishing buddies who use the line they are also in agreement. I have horrendous issues of it flying off the spool (was loaded correctly and back wind). Definitely not the same line from years gone by!

I've just break tested 2 of my 12lb BobCo Technium spools, as it's been bugging me.
I tested twice each, with a 4 turn grinner knot puller and scales sides. The line broke at one or other of the knots (not surprising, a palomar might have ventured better) but the minimum break figure was 12lb 7oz and the max 13lb 9oz.
I'm happy with that 👍

When i used to use the original technium i was getting 17lb plus knot strength with the 12lb 0.33 it had a really good strength to diameter

That fits in with my comment about my knots. I used a 4 turn grinner, you could lose 10-20% breaking strain, so the 13lb 9oz could be more like 16lb + (maybe).
I didn't have the time to try various knots, and besides, I already had it past 12lb so knowing I could use a better knot I was happy with that 😎

Stuff I had from Bobco you could take a couple of feet in your hands give it a jerk & it snapped easily, it also didn't feel as smooth as the proper stuff.
Never got as far as knotting it to anything as it was definitely inferior to technium I already purchased prior.

On the back of me clearly being in good company here, I decided to email ESP with the issues that I'd had with syncro xt, purely because it used to be such a great line
This was the response (im sure they'd have no issue with me posting this, it may be useful!)
Hi Chris,
We're sorry to hear you have experienced a problem with the Syncro. It's a strange one, as we were made aware of the thread on the Carp Forum but hadn't heard of any other complaints from retailers or anglers directly to us.
We contacted our monofilament manufacturer last week, who has made Syncro since we launched it in 2011 and they have assured us that nothing has changed with the specification, manufacturing process, diameter, coating or the way it is loaded onto the 1000m spools. Sometimes there is slight colour variation from batch to batch but the grade of co-polymer and its processing have always been very consistent. In fact, over the long period of time since we launched it, we have had very few complaints or issues and it has remained a market leader, despite increasing competition from similar products.
On Friday I compared 12, 15lb and 18lb XT against spools that I have had in storage for over 10 years and there was no obvious difference in terms of 'feel', strength or diameter.
A possible cause of the mono feeling wirier (although I couldn't detect this on the spools I checked from stock) could be down to the very hot weather this summer. I know from experience that when I fished last weekend for the first time in several weeks, the line on my reels did feel very wiry. I keep moistened elastic sweat bands on my reels, but had forgotten to re-wet them before I went and they had gone bone dry during the period since I last fished.
I know most anglers soak the spools before loading so this should cure the potential problem, but apart from very dry atmospheric conditions, at the moment we can't pinpoint and obvious cause.
If you would like us to send a replacement spool, please send your address and indicate which diameter you would like. It would be interesting to know if it feels any different.

I'm still convinced that it has changed though! They way I load amd store it hasn't.
I found a set of spare spools in a case loaded with 10lb xt that I used probably 10 years ago for distance stuff. It's still limp and lovely.

I sent Dave a e-mail last Tuesday and we'd conversed a bit, but I haven't as yet had that info.
I didn't want to say anything on here as I hadn't cleared it with Dave 1st, but that's very much along the same lines. Ironically, I found a message in my drafts folder which hadn't sent last week, I sent it today but part of it concerned the weather.
If the mono is drying out in this exceptional weather, and it's causing it to behave the way in which it's doing, it's not to dissimilar to braid. You don't expect braid to act normally until wet either...hmm.

I'm still using my 18lb syncro xt with no issues.
I will occasionally give the spools a spray with water and washing up liquid solution to aid cutting through surface tension and surface scum.
I also splash a bit of water onto the spools before use.
Thicker line will always seem less limp than thinner line.
