Hi Having owned both, & used both through ' winter' ,I don't think there's a massive difference between the two. Found them both toasty warm but I felt the Avid bag was a tad heavier? Design wise , IMO the Avid was awful with a daft zip arrangement for the layers and a foot section held in place by a couple of toggles...hopeless if you are a fidgety sleeper.. The Fox was much better with full length HD zips.

I still own Ventec Lite (original) as a spare bag and its def as bulky as Gardner Compact (they're like for like in stuff sacks pretty much as well as weight)

Theres no way i could get my gardner bag in my cotswold carryall which is why i bought the gardner bag for it but i can get my fox ventec xl in it so gardner bag was definitely more bulky. I could never of got my original ventec bag in mind as that thing was huge.

You must have the Plus not the compact . . .Compact def no diff in size to Ventec Lite!

My Avid is a lot heavier and bulkier than the Ventec. Never had an issue with the layers as I don't mess around removing them, I use a different bag in summer. I use the old technique of if I'm hot, push the bag down, if I'm cold, pull it up
