Did you give it enough time to rise with a totally slack line? Have you checked the line to see if its rough. At certain times of year it can be hard work with Polaris due to crap on the waters film sticking to the line. You can speed things up by putting a stop knot up the line to prevent the float going all the way down.

Yes floats failed to surface but only in the deeper parts of the water. The water wasn't deeper than the floats were rated for though.
I've ordered some slicker line to see if that helps

Yes gave the floats loads of time. If the floats didn't surface in the fist 5 seconds they never surfaced at all.
All the tests in the areas close to the bank worked fine, it was just the deeper parts of the lake where they didn't work even thought the floats were rated deeper than the water I was fishing.
Ive ordered some smoother line to see if that helps

Looking forward to see how the work when the new line arrives as the idea seems great.
The only thing I don't like compared to regular floats is that you cant wind the float into position and where is lands is where it stays.

Long time since I have used a Polaris type float
Iirc they were for legering with a feeder or bomb etc rather than just as a float
I used to fish them in really deep swims and with a bomb or feeder never had a problem
Hardest thing was remembering to sidestrike

I found striking upwards I missed loads of bites same as a sliding float set up with stop knot
Side striking you are effectively using the weight of the water to set the hook (that's how I see it anyway... could be wrong in my way of thinking)
