A number of shops offer a discount for cash, and legally, as they don't pay card processing fees.
Most Debit cards are around 2%, and credit cards slightly more, American Express was around 5%.

My local greengrocer, just as an example, worked out they paid £500+ every month for taking card payments, so they prefer cash.

Fraid so.
You think we put everything on our debit card without thinking about it, yet the service provider (who we bought off) is paying for it.

There are less and less banks every day, and getting cash is getting harder and harder, yet shops and us are paying for it.

A fair bit of price on items is to pay for card transactions, at which point everyone loses out, even those who pay cash.

The banks and government want a cashless society, they can check taxes, income etc.

So for some places to give a discount for cash, means they are more likely to get my business.

Governments dream a cash less society, no tax avoidance at the bottom of the food chain. Also much harder for drug dealers, petty criminals and the shadow economy to operate.

Indeed, and no giving the local kids a fiver to wash your car (I'm tight and my car is dirty...)

The shadow economy; I reckon that paid cash for jobs, around 50% of that money is declared, maybe less. Self-employed workers, tradesmen, so many trades can hide or not declare cash.

Anyway, I've diverted from the original topic with the pros and cons of cash, so my apologies.

I noticed ABS are mostly deal direct, but Hampshire Tackle do stock them.

At 0% tax you don't have a shadow economy, at 100% tax the entire economy goes underground. Can't blame anyone for meeting at the car park, since we are closer to the latter than the former. Thus the push for digital money. But yes off topic, back to boilies:P
