I'd also suggest a short wire trace attached to the deeper just to ensure you don't get bitten off by a large pike.

I was an original Humminbird smart cast user / early adopter and that was a game changer on the weedy lake I was fishing at the time . . .distance was its massive downfall (too light and the range was poor) so when the fist deeper was released I bought one; followed by the chirp.

Distance much improved over the smartcast based on the weight (when casting) and range however they can still be annoying in poor conditions without a range extender. Used the chirp on a bait boat for a while but even at range with an extender you can still get a signal failure which is massively annoying . . integrated systems (eg Toslon) on bait boats are far more reliable

Good product on the whole and excellent if your time poor / fish lots of different waters and bait boats are banned - still need to use in conjunction with a bare lead tho IMO
