Hence the need for heavy leads so you can take out the stretch and still hold bottom

Most monos will have 20-30% stretch. I assume you can do the maths to calculate you are not taking that out with a 10 ounce lead over 300m.

That comment is funny, If you think you can take stretch out of mono by tightening up to a lead even at close range i think you need to reevaluate your thinking.
Even braid in heavy weed at that range and say 10oz leads can give you problems with poor bite detection and end tackle being moved about, one post you say weed is low another you say about the floating weed and massive undertow.

I spent many years fishing the inland seas of Europe and eastern Europe at range, so these notes are just from experience and not having a dig
Firstly as mentioned use a rotten bottom weight attachment (we cut one end of a swivel off, drilled a heavy pebble or small rock and glued the swivel in) This was then attached to a standard lead clip system by 1-1.5lb pole elastic which is strong enough to set the hook but easily breaks when either a run occurs or realing in
Fishing at range will always involve tow, fishing across shallows into deeper water will always cause abrasion to your mainline at the point of drop off. Depending on the make up of the lake bed your mainline won't last long (mono, braid whatever) it's a big no no for me.
You described "massive weed", at the ranges you're describing you're going to get so many false indications I wouldn't have thought it's worth it inline lead or not
Lastly, the only way you'll get a tight line from the end tackle to the mainline (at the distances you're describing) is to use a 20ft lead attached to the mainline ahead of the end tackle. You'll never get a tight line at that distance, braid or mono. (Also using a bait boat at that range negates the benefits because presentation and set up are guesswork)
Not trying to put you off fishing at range as it's given me great pleasure over the years, just a few musings from my experiences for you to ponder upon

Lets get one thing very clear about where i am fishing. Its not a case of catch at all costs for me personally, although it is for the owner of the fish.
Im fishing a lake that is not open for fishing, its a lake that is connected by a series if oulets. One if these outlets leads to a carp fishery of substantial size with big fish.
This lake flooded and a nuber of the fish have been seen in the lake im curently fishing, ie they got out in the flood.
The fishery owner approced the owner of THIS lake and asked if we could try and get them out. He was granted permission with a very secific set of rules.
1) only one angler
2) only fish from one bank in one peg thst had to be made
3) no actual boat
4) only tiger nuts (no idea why)
So yes, while not ideal the rules state i must fish from one bank, in the summer its fine, as ive stated in front of me is 2-3ft for a long long way. Fish were caught and returned.
Now its winter and permission is still in place, drone footage has shown there are still a significant ammount of fish here, they still need catching, the deeper water is a long way out, you can bait boat it or you can wade out and cast, equally when a fish is hooked you can wade right out to land it.
The reason i made the post was to ask if anyone knew of a way i could drop the lead on retreave simply because i needed to use big leads, i didnt want to be wading miles in the dark, cold, very windy, wet days and nights we have just had, equally with the weed now breaking up i was beeing dragged all over the place.
I whole heartedly agree it would be miles better to fish from the other bank however i cant. Do i need to catch at all costs? Well personally no but for the fish owner yes as if THIS lake floods chances are they will vanish, fish have been retured home to 52lbs so far this year so its clearly working. (Not caught by myself (im one of 3 people fishing the lake in rotation) but documented on the fishery website)

personally I'de drain it, net'em out, put them back where they came from and pray for no more floods.

I was actually joking about draining it,
but on a little more serious note,
have you considered placing your rods "beachcaster" style similar to fishing for big cats in Europe, it would reduce the amount of line in the water for a considerable way out from the bank, and help get a more instant contact with a take not having to retrieve yards of line from weed.
are you permitted to "rake" the weed?
if you can wade a good distance before getting out of your depth, it might be beneficial in one or two ways, easier to extract any hooked fish, and carp just love a fresh area to investigate, which is part of the reason they made their way to their current location. you may be able to entice them over a period of baiting into a prepared "extraction zone"
don't take chances wading out at the very least take a decent wading pole to test the depth and bottom composition of your chosen route.

Yup rod tips are up in the air using my solar universal euro pod. Far to much weed to rake put unfortunately.
Its all good now, all i needed was to drop the lead on the retreave and got that sorted. Currently on night night 14 without seening another human!
