Same re qd, see loads of people back the drag off to virtually no resistance which to me seems pointless. Always back off enough to stop the rod being ripped out of the but grip for me is far better as it gives more time to pick up and prevent the fish finding a snag.

Slightly off thread but does anyone know if spare spools are available for Okuma inc 6000.A great reel for the money btw

They are, but they're about £26 each so it didn't make sense to me to pay that when you can get a complete reel for under £50 so I just bought 4 reels.
Re the SS2600 QD, I found without it the cap turns loads. I don't have it set particularly loose either. Got rid anyway and sold them on very quickly as I just didn't like them and felt I'd been robbed compared to the price of the Okumas. They look great and I understand the cult appeal, they were just wobbly and the retrieve not quick enough to crank 8oz of lead over the rocks on the Trent.
Doesn't really matter on most Carp lakes where they barely get used, but I'm casting every 30-60 minutes during the day on the river so they get much more of a hammering and you notice things a lot more.

The ss does have some play in the drive and non existent anti reverse, but having abused them in the Pacific Ocean I'd say they are more than up to the task of carp or barbel fishing. Granted they won't be great at retrieving big leads because they're originally for retrieving lures, being light, resisting sw corrosion and having a smooth drag
