Same thing in reality Joss...4 main services from RM these days;
1st/2nd standard - not tracked, not signed for
1st/2nd tracked - not signed for but "proof" of delivery after the event
1st/2nd signed for - same as the old recorded delivery, signature required.
Special Delivery - guaranteed next day, signed for, insured up to £500 (higher amounts available)
if in doubt send by Special, the Postie would not risk nicking those!

Mark this has already cost me more in time and effort being on the phone to RM, eBay dispute, PayPal dispute etc. PayPal have been in touch and basically said eBay have provided the tracking info so I'm not expecting anything from that now
I've got onto Royal Mail again and lodged a complaint because the delivery person is 100% lying saying I said to leave the parcel by the front door.
I'm not holding my breath for any type of outcome but I'll keep trying. The seller I've given up on as they just keep saying RM have 100% proof of delivery and I can't prove it wasn't delivered. I said to them that the item being scanned is not 100% proof of delivery and that is it not even remotely possible that the driver could of scanned a load of parcels on my road at same time and either delivered it elsewhere or even left it in the van or worst case stole it and they were saying no there is no chance of this happening because the tracking says delivered

If its Royal Mail Tracked, the postie should of taken a photograph of the parcel on the floor with the front door open.

No photo or anything. Have escalated the issue but all I keep getting back is the same copy and pasted email saying they can't add anything to what's already been said and if I'm not happy with this decision then email this email address, which is the same email address, so I done that and just got exactly the same email back
Just got to lick my wounds on this one but if I see the delivery driver I'll be telling him he's a lying c@nt

I might be missing something here, but why does your address give away what you sell? Just put an address and postcode.

Because if the return address is fishing related ( solar tackle/nash ) etc then the delivery person knows it's fishing related

I think what Rob means is if you just put the address on the return label rather than the name of the company, then how would the postman know what's inside. Obviously if you put the company name on the label then there's a chance the postman would know what's in there

This. Plus I was a postie for 22 years and other companies don't seem to have the issue of loads of parcels going missing. Yeah there are loads of postie fisherman, but there are also loads of postie gamers, antiques collectors, cyclists, etc etc etc.
No return address is one of the main reasons why items go ‘missing' - the most common reasons are misdelivery, wrong address on the item, unreadable address (which if there's no return address means it goes to Belfast, is opened and destroyed if no return address found).
Theft is way, way down the list and I'm not going to argue with anyone about it. Yeah it happens but it's not common in the least.

The answer is parcel theft is on the increase from all companies, including Royal Mail.
It should actually be impossible for a parcel to have no return address. I know when I have booked parcels online with whoever, a few companies, a return address is required, and when I have taken it into the Post Office they add a return address if I haven't put it on.
The 'non-contact' or signing off parcel delivery has made it easier for parcels to go missing. Take a photo next to the door, any door can be used for some places, blocks of flats, council houses that are similar.
I have had items go missing supposedly delivered to me for various reasons:
On collection from tackle company with correct address on invoice and delivery note, carrier label had changed number 6 for a 9, so parcel was delivered to house up the road while householder was on holiday.
Supposedly I was out, and received a text from the carrier saying 'your parcel has been delivered'. I was in all day, purposely waiting for parcel delivery. Contacting carrier did find a few parcels going walkies to the driver.
Some carriers do not leave 'sorry we missed you' cards, or just shove them through the door without waiting.
I enjoy these as my 'close' off the main road has CCTV in a number of the flats, various Ring doorbells and we all get on, so we just zip the footage over.
The best one i know of actually was a crooked Royal Mail postie. He was caught removing official post, and in the householders name applying for credit cards, ordering goods etc, knowing he would deliver them. Identity theft on a big scale. A number of people were called upon by bailiffs for credit card companies etc.
He was eventually jailed.
