Explain how the casing of mine cracked on both while being in storage for the winter? They were fine when I put them both away. I consider myself fairly careful with small finnicky things so was quite disappointed when this happened and how much I paid for them to break on their second outing.

I've also used them since they came out and have not once lost a lead on the cast. I've had the same 3 on for a couple of years now and they're as good as new.

Interested to hear other opinions on this one.
I fish a fairly weedy water with a leader/leadcore ban. If I use the helisafe without the collar, so drop off style as soon as I retrieve through any weed the lead comes off.
Apart from trying the old flick the lead off the bottom and wind in fast anyone got any tips how not to drop a lead every retrieve. It's getting expensive and not good dropping multiple leads for the sake of it.

Ive dropped down to as light a lead as possible and put the collar on, so don't drop the lead - which isn't really what I wanted them for.
Wondered if Im doing something wrong?

The latest ones. The minis, have a red coil with them which takes slightly more pressure and can aleaviate that issue

Love how the OP asks a question and despite people trying to help it seems you'd rather assume you can do absolutely no wrong and it's the products fault. There is zero point in anyone trying to help you if you dismiss every suggestion.
Many of us have abused the crap out of these and they have been fine, never even heard of a case cracking but I'd 100% want to see photos as I like to constantly scrutinise what I use

Nope, never cleaned one and never ejected a lead on the cast. Not sure what you are doing.

If the lead snags weed it shouldn't drop unless very dense. If the hook or rig snags then it likely will, that's how they are designed to work on a take. If it's that weedy and you're losing leads on the retrieve either put the collar in and use a light lead you don't need to drop or find a clearer spot to fish.
They are a plastic case with a simple hook and spring, not fool proof magic.

I never took any and was too annoyed on the bank to bother keeping them. Just to repeat, the ones that split for me were the new mini versions, I had the red springs in and kept them on when I packed the rods away. They split on the cap part that is twisted into place, on the minis this part is quite small but made them unsafe.

You said it was winter, maybe they had water in them, that froze and that caused the crack

Haven't heard of any cracking possibly down to water temperature over colder months ?
