Thought the original spools were shiny silver and re release silver with different stickers, is the current black edition finish as robust as the original ss3000 or Tourny 5000?

I'm sure Garry (custom reels) told me black tournaments have one or two lower grade bearings or bushes than a blue original. He recommended buying a set in case they wound down production (of blues)

I went from original ss3000 to the blue/grey 5000, the ss were battered because when I got them they felt big and clumsy so still used by Baitrunners and ended up using the ss sea fishing but they were abused conger fishing on rock marks and got knocked about climbing over rocks and sea walls. The 5000's never got the abuse but the finish always felt more robust but could just be my poor memory.

can the aluminum pinion be replaced with a bronze pinion?

as far as im aware for a long time the SS3000, Blue Tourney and BE tourney are pretty much all interchangeable. (makes economic sense) but check schematics or ask Daiwa first !
the brass pinion and aluminium main gear are more than up to the job so just replace from Daiwa
the only other minor difference i can think of is the ss3000 as mentioned had 5 BBs ,no roller or handle BB, think it was to do with being surf reels so they have a nylon bushing (not the end of the world) and prob to cut costs the BE tourny has the same

You'll only be able to get a square gear second hand, but the rest of the it's, daiwa will probably have on the shelf

I keep looking at the TBE's thinking exactly the same, buy a set before they are discontinued which I should have done when they re-released the 3000's. You know when you want to buy something but there's no way you could ever justify a need?

I was told many years ago by Daiwa, probably nearly 10 years ago that the ss3000 isn't as good as the 5000t, lower quality paint etc. whether that's true, god knows but Daiwa said it.

I'm amazed daiwa don't do another re-release, I'd buy a few more sets as a retirement nest egg
