It all depends on your individual circumstances doesn't it. Luckily I don't have a big mortgage these days, I'm not saddled with a huge car loan and I'm very fortunate to be paid reasonably well in my day job.
So I don't tend to think too much about renewing my club membership at Wheelock AS or booking several trips a year to a very nice commercial lake.
I have no doubts this year I will cough up the higher of the two amounts you mention - admittedly I'm very fortunate but as I don't really drink, don't spend much money on any other hobbies I don't mind the investment in my own time and enjoyment.

Ah, I assumed from 'club' and being in Essex you meant public club. Interesting! We certainly have a few (heaps) cracking waters around Essex.

I agree with this. I have actually potentially just landed another dream ticket meaning my ticket costs would hit £1500 this year. I don't really mind, I earn decent coin and can justify it.

Another issue is if you drop a ticket its unlikely you will get back on if needed!
So many people on waiting lists now and on better syndicates so few dropping off.
I have 3 tickets that total about £1500 and I know if I dropped one of them there's no
chance of getting back on. This year a total of 4 people over the 3 syndicates have
dropped their tickets.
So I pay knowing I may not fish that particular water that year.

I hear of a place,...that has offloaded members who do not fish waters enough,or not at all..ie they just members in name only they just hold a ticket and privilege to fish..
What are peoples thoughts on this,do stipulated rules need to be made ie ,if your don't fish it enough ...

Yep. As mentioned below I might get offered a 2nd ticket which I couldn't refuse if it was offered - even if I was only to get a night or two in there this year.

Thats what I meant,members only doing one ,two or no sessions being removed from the club ,so others can join who ,would make a proper go of it..
I also know of a situation,where members are removed from syndicates as they couldn't fish due to illness etc ,and the syndicate manager,letting his 'buddies'..fish..giving out ridiculous excuses for that as well..

Maybe. I've worked really hard to get the tickets I've got, took a lot of time and lot of effort, as has everyone else there (I'd imagine).
Mine are nearly 2 hours apart. I'm hoping to fish them both simultaneously but might be moving hours across the country do wouldn't fish one as much due to that

I've just been offered a ticket that I have been waiting 7 years for. Couldn't justify the expense this year (we have a couple to family holidays that had been moved due to COVID and a very recent family bereavement so time and money both at a premium). Luckily I was allowed to defer for a year so fingers crossed a bit different next year as do not want to miss out on that ticket. Will keep my current one as well as no chance of getting that back if I drop it and this lake is getting better year on year. If prices keep going up something will have to give though as it will be c.£1k for both tickets

You could look at it as a good thing if people don't or can't make maximum use out of a ticket, it has to be less pressure on the fish and folks can find a swim when they turn up.
With young kids and a being a single dad, I'm lucky if I have used my club ticket more than three or four times a year for the past 9 years, but I will never drop it as there is a ten year long waiting list which is currently closed.
With my kids getting older I am planning to be out more this year. I'm sure there is a reason why some people don't necessarily get the full use out of tickets but I'm sure they will hold them as they know they will never get back in again.
