For me, if my lead is cast on the correct line and in hitting the clip the bow is taken out and the lead falls on a tight line I am happy.

You wouldn't have got the bow out of the line casting on Wednesday evening!
I was having to aim around 10metres right to cope with the wind, and had to allow an extra 5metres on the clip to hit the spot.

Maybe I am. But I know how far out I'm fishing, and if I'm in a match and someone says they've been catching at 70m I know how to measure out that distance.

The wind made a huge difference on Thursday night. At this time of year I'm getting the rods out in the dark so have to do it on feel and a bit of hope. Casting into that wind made it near impossible to feather the cast and drop on a tight line. Ended up having to use a 4.5oz lead to feel any sort of drop and even then I wasn't convinced.
Ended up putting three choddies out and blanking, not good angling but the conditions were extreme.

I still fish to the clip, but always feather the line down so that you don't hit the clip too hard and you are on a tight line.
