I use my Caddy for work, but even if I didn't I'd probably still have one for fishing. It's a shed on wheels.
Family and fishing vehicles should be kept separate if possible.

So its not used for work and your main family car?
Appreciate you have a top spec transit but all my original comments stand. Your van is well specced in van terms but compared to a decent suv or something like lets say a vw amarok surely it can't compete bar the additional space?
Like i said each to their own. Ive driven lots of vans nice high seat position etc but terrible to drive every day. Even my amarok v6 i bought for silly money thought would fill the gap between family/camping/fishing etc but again driving 100 miles plus a day it was noisy and although as far as pick ups go top of the food chain not nearly as nice as a decent car.
Needless to say that went also lol. Now have my dream car that only my wife drives lol as I use her 335d touring for family/fishing 😂 Its on the smaller side of estates but still fits everything i could ever throw at it. Bar you have to play tetris if i take my son with but even though we have roof rack and toe bar fitted not once had to use it.

I had a top spec Range Rover Autobiography before, and i'll be honest, i prefer the M-Sport van for the simple fact, it has such brilliant multiple uses.
Ive had an SUV also, decent motors, but for what i want a van for suits me perfectly, and the MPH is probably on par or better than a V6
Ive never found the drive poor, not on par with an 80K rangey, granted, but ive not got one complaint about the van ive got.

Ah but that's my point and what im trying to get around. You use your van for work also and something like track days so makes perfect sense for you.
But saying that the op poster asked for advice for a family car that can also be used for fishing. His circumstances is vastly different to yours wouldn't you say?

Same, people don't realise the new higher spec customs are closer to a car than a van. Can't fault mine.
I can't drive or be a passenger in a car now, feels bloody terrifying down there!
I often drive high top Xlong wheel base vans so my little transit feels like a fiesta.
Don't understand sports cars or hatchbacks, seems a waste of money having a vehicle that's impractical and even estates while longer, lack height to access your stuff.
Pick ups, pony. No load space for the wheelbase.
I'd consider a galaxy or equivalent. They're often better than a caddy type van, which don't work very well with anything over about 1800mm.
If I was to buy again now it'd definitely be exactly what I have, I plan to convert it once it's paid for and buy another anyway

Lol so it's not just my wife that f*@"#s up every car she owns 😂😂😂😂. I was dreading giving her the 335 when i bought the amarok. Car was like new. Since then I have noticed every m sport alloys are curbed to hell lol.
Worst is now she drives my f10 m5 comp mostly as i use 335d for work if needed and fishing. Needless to say any marks on my car divorce papers will be filed

Yep I agree. I had a mk8 golf convertible as the family car and a transit. 95% of the time I chose to drive the transit. In fact on the odd occasion I took my car training for example, the other people in class didn't realise it was me in the car park as I was only ever in my transit. It was just as nice to drive, gave probably the same fuel economy and had just as many toys as the golf.
With regards to parking and narrow roads etc. if you park a transit or a t5/6 next to a Range Rover there's actually not that much size difference. Not enough to have any effect on actual real world usage.

I've got a Mercedes Vito Dualiner which is the car version of the panel van, 5 seats, glazed all round and fully trimmed out. The 3 rear seats fold and tilt forward or can be completely removed easily, mine stay in the garage. Insurance is £250 ish a year as in road fund licence. It's a 3L V6 diesel auto, and at about 260 bhp it goes rather nicely and i can get 40 mpg on a run. I had 3 estates prior to this and the van is so much more practical.
