.... I been looking for jacket and trousers that are proper waterproof and have bought multiple brands in the past without success .... Including Army MTP Goretex and none have been waterproof .... The reviews on this Fortess stuff looks very promising so just ordered the jacket (breathable version)

rather than start another thread...
I have the MTP Goretex and they are nigh on 10 years old now.
Was out yesterday and after packing in that steady rain found out they ain't really waterproof any more.
Does anyone have any tips or hints to re proof them?

I have and still use DPM ,drawstring waterproof trousers ,I have had em for it seems for ever,they still 90% waterproof ,if you kneel down on the floor for example they leave a wet patch on my knees now..tried doing the in wash proofers and fabric rejuvenation thing, didn't make a bit of difference
So I just use Regatta pak away ,walking trousers instead they cheap ,act as a windbreak used with your layers..they not bramble resistant at all though ..
Or some ESP salopettes I really like them...

That sound like the original PU backed nylon ones predating the issue of Gortex. I still have mine that I was issued with in 1982 but never wear them as they can get too hot and sweaty as they do not breath.
But, what I do myself with such type material is soak them in fabsil Gold and hang to dry, just enough in a washing up basin and give them a good kneading in the liquid till they are soaked inside and out. But, wear some latex gloves as you end up with waterproof hands as well as a waterproof basin. Nothing penetrates them then. I do all my jackets that way and I can wear them for days in the rain, and water just beads off.
The trouble is though with kneeling on wet surfaces, the water is "forced" through the material. Usually if I have a lot of kneeling to do when fishing, I wear a pair of knee pads and it makes a massive difference as well as keeping your knees warm in Winter.
The knee pads that I wear are ones that SWAT teams or paintballers use so they are of a hard plastic which stops stones and any lost or discarded hooks etc sticking into your knee as opposed to the foam type.
