Sorry OP not hijacking,
No its not that,
the spool stops going in and out when its under pressure/ reeling a fish or weed in, no pressure and the line lay returns to normal, I think the drive has failed, a first for me ever.

I quite like the look at the Nash scope GTL8000 reel, specs:

They can't confirm about line reducers as they don't know what's in the box until they get here from China

Thanks for all the recommendations chaps, think I'm going to probably go for the penn affinity 7000, lots of glowing reports on how good they are, now to just find some stock at a decent price

I will second the Okumas.
I have got both the Affinity II long cast and the Okuma T-Rex 7000.
I much prefer the drag and general feel of the Okumas and at £65 at TFT they are an absolute bargain!

yes some of the shimano stuff is made in malaysia both sets of ci4's i have had were, imo there is a huge difference between the ci4's and the xtd's and also original ci4 to non ci4 xtb
To the op i would take penns over the daiwa 35 scw and shimano 14000 xtd

I bought my 5500 xtbs back in 2006 they still work were they better made then ?
With material / labour costs etc etc all higher now (a lot due to the world stopping due to covid) I guess anything we buy will not be as good as it was.

Yes i think they were better made then, i still believe the original ci4's which i stupidly sold as i couldn't get hold of another were better than my newer ci4, i bought an original 5500 xtb non ci4 to use alongside the ci4's which in comparison to the ci4 was no where near as smooth due to internals. I ended up selling them all on
I still have a set of the newer ci4 5500 which to be fair are ok but my mate has a set of the xtd's and after having a play with them there is no way i would use them compared to other reels in the same price bracket as them
