The other club in the area saw an increase of new members, and an increase in alcohol consumption, resulting in bailiffs being busier and dealing with arguments at midnight with loud noise and water disputes. Fact is, many cannot go fishing without having a beer in their hand. Furthermore, with the vast majority of waters in Kent under waiting lists and not many open access club waters, it's not difficult to see why people hopped onto the A20 for the short journey to Foots Cray, or the M20 to Paddock Wood.

I wasn't, just stating that the rule meant people joined other clubs that allowed it. That's the lengths people will go to just to have a beer when fishing. The fact the club had to bring in the rule in the first place showed that alcohol and the subsequent behaviour was becoming an issue. Are people really going to change their behaviours due to the new water they're going to be on? Not by what i've seen.

End of the day the club should have dealt with the issue of the heavy drinking with those involved, not do a complete ban! Isn't that what they have baliffs for?

I was a member for many years and knew Bob Morris when he first started carp fishing and remember buying some 2 1/4 TC rods to fish Sutton and got them stolen the first night I fished there, expensive trip to the local pub. Sad to read about his dispute with the Club and also sounds like the situation on the carp lakes has gone downhill. On the other hand the club has always been run by match anglers for match anglers and carp anglers were frowned upon, sounds like times haven't changed! Very lucky to have been able to fish Brooklands (before and after DDAPS acquired it), the same applies to Horton Kirby, where I had the keys to the gate long before DDAPS bought it and fished Sutton at Hone from the early 70's. Reading catch reports and talking to some members who are still there after I left, all of these lakes have gone downhill since the 70's. Lack of investment might be 1 reason and no interest by dominant committee members in carp fishing might be another! Hopefully things will improve but.......?

I've been a member of DDAPS for ten plus years now. And in this time I have only seen improvements especially on Brooklands the place has had a complete makeover in recent years with a great Bailiffing team behind it. Admittedly in the past the club was very Match oriented with an Anti Carp fishing agenda.. " No unhooking Matt's or Bivvies allowed ******** " But that's a thing of the past now luckly. The situation with Bob Morris and the committee is Sad admittedly. But condeming a whole club over it which was mentioned a few post back is wrong. The issue with banning drinking Alcohol on there waters was a bit strong in my opinion. I like many enjoy a few tins when on the bank fishing. But it was the minority who didnt understand the meaning of a few. And in the end there hand was forced.

I remember that no unhooking mats fiasco followed by mats in bin liners, before that we had only umbrella based shelters rule. Had some great times there though, with some great characters

I don't pretend to know the details of this but I've known Bob, and in those days his Dad John, since the mid 80's. I cannot overstate how much his shop and his help is the reason that stuck at carp fishing in the ‘80's when I was out of my depth.
Even back then they used to talk about tench fishing Sutton from their garden so his claim to have been doing this for 30 years is true.
When you think of how much of DDAPS membership money will have come from people who Bob (and the TackleBox) encouraged and helped to start fishing and them treating him like this stinks.
Aside from enjoying terrible puns far too much, I can't think of a nicer or less argumentative bloke than Bob. If he's arguing it's because he has been forced into it.
