We will have to disagree on that one then. A13 foot rod looks just the same at the reel end as a 12 foot rod so cant really look unbalanced. I could cast just as far with my black tech mags as i could with my castizms when i had the mags. Identical rods with a 3.5oz lead and the same 0.35 line. Ive never seen fisheries demand a certain diameter it has always been a minimum breaking strains that they recommend.

I've had castizms and original iso at the same time and with.37
On both from 120 on the iso cast further, up the diameter to 0.40mm and the difference is even more noticeable and as has been said the retreaval is easier. Also once you start fishing at 140+ you need 4oz weights or more to stop any undertow moving the rig. Fishing thin lines of 8lb bs with a leader at long range for big fish is in my opinion not safe with today's powerful rods.
There is also a 100g difference in weight of the ultegra ci4's being mentioned before line is added, the rods I mentioned earlier feel unbalanced with the small reels on them.

I'm seriously thinking of a set of Ci4 14000 Ultegras for my new Nash Black Op's Scopes in 10ft 3.5.
I have a set of the 5500 XTD Ultegra spod reels and that size reel should be perfect I hope with the new ten footers.

Interesting you're thinking of the 14000s on scopes. I have two different setups - heavier 12 footers for long distance work and 9ft scopes that I use the majority of the time for easily getting about. Looking to upgrade my reels and plan to use one set of reels for both.
Can't decide between the 5500/14000s though. I think the 14000s look better and should probably cast, retrieve, and play better for only a small the price difference, but worry about them being just too big for my 9ft scopes.

I actually put the 5500's on my 10ft scopes and didn't like them, to me they didn't seem balanced enough and I returned them. I was going to buy the 14000 XTD'S but I didn't think there would be much difference to the 12000 XTB's so I stuck with those which I think are perfect.

I use med baitrunners ci4+ 5500 on my 13ft 3lb rods with12lb technium black we have a leader ban and max line dia of 0.37 15lbs max lead size 4 oz. I use 3oz leads. If I need to cast further which I don't really need to do. I would use heavier rods and bigger reels with heavier line to cope with 4oz leads. Leader bans mean you have to re-evaluate what tackle is useable for each situation.

When I put the 5500's on my 10ft 3.5 BO scopes, the reels looked tiny even on those 10 footers and the feel of it just didn't seem right to me as in too small/lightweight. I just couldn't get on with them. To be honest, I haven't used a reel that small for years and I really should have gone to see them without ordering them first.

I suppose ''balance" is subjective and you just prefer the larger reels were all different after all.

Yes, there's probably some truth in that. I haven't used reels that small since using a set of 8010's many years ago and the size of them on that rod seemed alien to me.
